Customer Reviews Tokyo - Sumidagawa YH

| I had an excellent time here. The hostel is clean, quiet, very pleasant, and in a convenient location to get to just about anywhere in Tokyo. The staff is warm, friendly, helpful. This hostel attracts a diverse crowd, including many older Japanese lodgers, which is especially nice if you're the type who prefer enjoying a chat over tea rather than raucous partying. Highly recommended! | ||

| First time in a hostel that you had to leave during the day. It was odd. Good washer and drier. Easy access to ATM at the nearby Seven Eleven. All the 7-11s that we saw had ATMs. Much better than the banks. They all had international access to funds. | ||

| The fact that the door is closed at night and you can't stay in during the day is a very bad and limiting Choice. a person should be able to come and go as he pleases, or at least be able to get some sleep after spending the whole night out (since you can't get back in the middle of it) | ||

| I really enjoyed my time here. The staff is really nice and helpful. The signs pointing towards this place was a little confusing at first but in the end I made it. The shower room already offers shampoo and body wash so that's one less thing you need to carry with but if you prefer a certain brand then bring your own. They also have cotton swabs, which I brought just in case. There are no elevators here so be prepared to carry your own things upstairs. If you room here, you get your own personal small locker. By the way, your key will have a tag that shows you your room number and your locker number. I walked into my room and an older woman, also rooming with me, was confused by the numbers on the keys and thought she was in the wrong room. Make note that you do have to make your own bed. It's a 'futon', Japanese style bedding on a tatami mat. I really enjoyed that. Hopefully this comment was somewhat helpful. | ||

| A rather mixed experience: I stayed a week and was glad to leave. I found this HI disctinctly inferior to the Anne Hostel round the corner in terms of price and service.
Surly staff were incredibly generous towards my friend when she was in financial difficulty, for which I'm very grateful. However, the day after checking out (after a full week at the place, advance booked online) the same member of staff would not allow me to use the (paying!) internet, presumably out of resentment at my moving next door for my last night in Tokyo. Although I realize that it was both clearly advertized and not too strictly implemented I still found the day-time curfew difficult to accept.
Sorry to be so negative - I hope my feedback can help you to improve service, as this stay rather damaged my confidence in HI. | ||

| This is a relatively small hostel in a good location (nice neighbourhood) with a relaxed atmosphere and friendly, helpful staff. A nice introduction to Tokyo and an oasis in which to recoup from the rigours of exploring this big city. Local shops and restaurants are good value too. | ||
