Looking back on 1000 years of history, partly under Swedish rule and as an important Hanseatic town, Stade is characterized by carefully restored half-timbered town houses and its seaside location in the “Altes Land” between Hamburg and Cuxhaven on the rivers Elbe and Schwinge. An ancient but modern place, it has a lot to offer: great shopping as well as cycling on Elbe cycle route and the bustling metropolis of Hamburg with its many leisure opportunities is just a stone throw away.
The youth hostel is located very close to the Old Town at the moat of the Swedish Bastion. Nearby facilities include a bowling alley, a large screen cinema as well as bike and pedalo rental. Hamburg can be easily reached by S-Bahn train.

| Bus: | By car or coach: from west or south A1 to Bockel, then B71 via Zeven to Bremervörde and continue on the B74 to Stade; from north or east A7 to Hamburg-Heimfeld and then B73 (direction Cuxhaven) to Stade. In Stade follow signs to town centre or “Stadeum”. |
| Location: | The youth hostel is located at the moat close to the Old Town, opposite the STADEUM cultural centre. |
| Rail: | Stade train station is on the Hamburg-Cuxhaven route, a 15 min walk from the hostel. HVV (Hamburg transport association) includes the districts of Harburg, Stade and Lüneburg in Lower-Saxony. |
