Selfoss is a lovely town of around 8000 inhabitants situated in the south of Iceland. It is conveniently located by road no. 1, a perfect stop for those who are travelling inland to Gullfoss and Geysir or the highlands, for those who want to explore the south shore or those continuing onwards on the main road. The municipal swimming pool is great, with several hot tubs, sauna and a slide. The town is on the banks of Ölfusá river and an evening walk on the riverbanks is a great idea, and if you are into golf there is a nice 9 hole course on the outskirts of town. Mt Ingólfsfjall is close by and makes for a good hike, you will be rewarded with a magnificent view over the plains of South Iceland to the mountains to the north and east and all the way to the Westman Islands off the coast. In town you can also visit the Art Museum and the church which has beautiful stained glass windows.
Selfoss Hostel is in an old remodelled house in the centre of town. It has 1-4 persons rooms with and without private facilities, well equipped guest kitchen, laundromat for guests. The patio is a great place to sit down and relax with a nice cup of coffee and write those postcards. Breakfast is served at the Hostel, you can also purchase a take-away lunchbox and coffee and cakes at the Hostel’s café. The receptionists are a fountain of knowledge and can assist you with your questions, as well as booking daytours in the area.

Customer Reviews Selfoss

| The best place I stayed on my visit! Everything was so easy, everyone so nice - and I was cycling so I didn't have a lot of extra energy for anything. Far cleaner and tidier than anywhere else I stayed, too. Really comfortable, nice common spaces - the guest kitchen, the tv area, morning coffee :) | ||

| Good hostel although we arrive a little late and however the door was opened nobody was inside! Finally the landlady arrived, not to impressed of us being late, but the hotel is good and the stay was very comfortable. | ||

| This hostel was the best of the 10 differents hostels where I slept in other locations in Island. The staff were very nice and helpfull with us, all the facilities were clean specially toilets and showers (it was a pleasure having a shower, thermal water), The common areas are quite big, there are at least 3 big rooms as far as I remember with sofas, chairs, tables creating a relaxed environment, the kitchen was fully equipped and quite big, we were cooking with other groups as there are 8 hubs...lots of pans...and the hostel is in the city center of Selfoss. I strongly recommend this hostel for the service, cleanliness and its great location near the Golden Circle!!! | ||

| Probably the best hostel I've stayed at in Iceland and Icelandic hostels are generally of a very high standard.
The hosts were very friendly and hospitable, location of the hostel was easy to find too. It was more hotel than hostel and their showers are great.

| Staff were very friendly, and facilities were great.
Just one suggestion: it would be convenient to have a hook or two inside shower rooms, not just outside.

| Overall, impressed with the accommodation at Selfoss. As a more 'mature' traveller, ensuite rooms would've been preferred but appreciate that you ar a 'youth' hostel organisation! Cost wise, very cheap! | ||
