Let us welcome you into this 17th century convent, nestled in one of the oldest streets of the historic town centre and still maintaining its original architectonical structure while providing modern services. Without forgetting the simple and essential style which defines us, we offer our guests all they need to enjoy a very pleasant stay: multilingual staff, 24hrs reception service, Wi-Fi, electronic keys, TV room and much more. The Salerno hostel has been the first in Italy to receive the Hi-Quality Certification.
The building, situated in the heart of the historic town centre, is just a few metres away from the sea and some of our rooms face the nearby 11th century Cathedral, with its Arab-Norman bell-tower. The old Longobard bard town, with its maze of alleyways, the old churches and the noble families’ palaces are all within walking distance, just as the promenade, perfect for a relaxing walk. The wonderful beaches of the Amalfi Coast, with gems like Amalfi itself or Positano, are easily reachable. A boat trip will take you to the “not-to-be-missed” Isle of Capri.
The ancient history of this area is close at hand too, as quick journeys by bus and train will take our guests to discover Pompeii’s archaeological site and the imposing Greek temples of Paestum.
Those who prefer staying in town can find little gems in the historic centre, like the old “Giardini della Minerva“ botanical gardens, where the Medical School of Salerno started from, while the artisans’ workshops and the goldsmith tradition of the old “Via Mercanti“ will surely tempt the shopping-lovers.
At night, it will be perfectly safe to take a walk through the narrow streets of the historic town centre, throbbing with life thanks to the many bars, pubs and wine shops, where you can taste the delicious typical food of our area.

| I loved this hostel and ended up extending my stay because of it. I liked the open terraces and the courtyard for quiet lunches/afternoons. It's not a 4 star hotel and there is no kitchen to cook in, but for a fairly clean, well kept hostel with amazing staff I loved it. Just know that you only get 1 hr internet per person and then you have to buy more (5 hr/€3, 10hr/€5). Hostel response: | ||

| We had a double on 4th floor which was very comfortable. There is a lift which was convenient. We never made it to breakfast so I can't comment on that. The hostel is located in storico so it is close to shops and good restaurants. We ate very well in Salerno at reasonable prices. There was a nice sundeck to relax on, at the end of 4th floor hallway. The hostel also had laundry facilities. This is my 2nd stay at this hostel. Hostel response: | ||

| Incredibly helpful staff, particularly when we had to change travel plans due to bus strike. Location central enough for easy access to central Salerno but when we visited (early March) also quiet at night. I like the view over the rooftops from the room. Hostel response: | ||

| Staff very welcoming and helpful, good breakfast.
Would be good to have a couple of hooks in the female dorm shower cubicles (for clothes and towel etc) Hostel response:

| The hostel's proximity to the Mergillena train station and easy enough to get to. Don't mind the underpass, it's not nearly as spooky as a lot of folks say it is and there's a road guard on duty at the base of the ramp up the hill so no worries about a secure walk late at night. Quiet at night but I was there in low season so maybe noisier other times of the year. Very spacious and while breakfast is fairly spartan, the coffee is good. Staff is very helpful. | ||

| We had a problem with the washing machine, which did not work the first time we used it. At first we were told that the previous person had also had a similar problem and to wait, then when our clothes clearly hadn't even begun to wash , that no-one else had ever had a problem and were only given a partial refund. At no point did either the member of staff on reception or the manager actually check the machine for themselves. Seeing as there were two power cuts while we were checking in, isn't it possible it might just have been the machine that was the problem and not us? Instead they insisted we must have done something wrong and made us feel like idiots.
So two things: get a washing machine that works, like other hostels have, and telling a customer they are wrong when you cannot be bothered to check for yourself is exceptionally poor customer service. It was a shame given that all our other hostel stays in Italy this trip have been so welcoming and positive. Hostel response:

| Smoking was allowed in the public areas (yuk). The courtyard in the center of the complex was very inviting but with other guests smoking I did not use it very much. Security for my dorm room was nonexistent but I never felt threatened. In the bath area it would be nice to have hand soap available for washing your hands after using the toilet and have paper towels to dry your hands. Hostel response: | ||
