Since 1650 the Ave Gratia Plena, according to the will of the town of Salerno, has been a convent for “maidens and girls on the brink.” In 2003, updating its “mission” of hospitality, it became the address of the Salerno Youth Hostel, offering comfortable en-suite rooms.

Let us welcome you into this 17th century convent, nestled in one of the oldest streets of the historic town centre and still maintaining its original architectonical structure while providing modern services. Without forgetting the simple and essential style which defines us, we offer our guests all they need to enjoy a very pleasant stay: multilingual staff, 24hrs reception service, Wi-Fi, electronic keys, TV room and much more. The Salerno hostel has been the first in Italy to receive the Hi-Quality Certification.

The building, situated in the heart of the historic town centre, is just a few metres away from the sea and some of our rooms face the nearby 11th century Cathedral, with its Arab-Norman bell-tower. The old Longobard bard town, with its maze of alleyways, the old churches and the noble families’ palaces are all within walking distance, just as the promenade, perfect for a relaxing walk. The wonderful beaches of the Amalfi Coast, with gems like Amalfi itself or Positano, are easily reachable. A boat trip will take you to the “not-to-be-missed” Isle of Capri.

The ancient history of this area is close at hand too, as quick journeys by bus and train will take our guests to discover Pompeii’s archaeological site and the imposing Greek temples of Paestum.

Those who prefer staying in town can find little gems in the historic centre, like the old “Giardini della Minerva“ botanical gardens, where the Medical School of Salerno started from, while the artisans’ workshops and the goldsmith tradition of the old “Via Mercanti“ will surely tempt the shopping-lovers.

At night, it will be perfectly safe to take a walk through the narrow streets of the historic town centre, throbbing with life thanks to the many bars, pubs and wine shops, where you can taste the delicious typical food of our area.

Internet too expensive, wifi should be free. Breakfast not included but you get a lot for the 3 euros if you choose to buy it. I was in a 4 bedroom dorm that was full and very crowded, only two cabinets that could be used to lock things in, not enough space for all our luggage.

Hostel response:
Kind Cinta,
thank you for your feedback. Sorry about the room but we are renewing some dorms to offer a better quality of service. Next time you will come you'll find better rooms. About the wireless from this month every customers has 1 hour free.
Come back to Salerno!

there is a parking issue with no where to park only on meters far from the hotel overnight parking very expensive and you have to pick the car up early thats if you get a place

Hostel response:
We are in the heart of the historic city center, 50 meters from the cathedral. Sorry Julia, but we can not move the building. However there are also private garages!

Very good - except for poor breakfast - not enough food on time & not enough staff to cope with numbers arriving at 7:30am. A "drinks" machine that didn't work at first, and then produced DREADFUL results for tea/coffee. Only one kettle, & one small toaster: not enough for the number of breakfasters.

Hostel response:
Thank you for your feedback! Unluckely that morning we had one breakfast staff sick and we did not find a solution. We appreciate your suggestions about the breakfast. Come back again!

Hostel had a good atmosphere but not many young people during my stay, even my dorm had a couple seniors staying in it. I didn't like that there wasn't any free WIFI and the cost associated with it was quite high (3 euro an hour). The breakfast was very good.

Hostel response:
Kind Michael, We do not discriminate against people for age. All people of all ages are always welcome here! This is our philosophy.
Thank you for your feedback.

Alberto is an asset to your hostel. Reception people helpful, friendly. Squeakly door wakes sleepers.Restaurant prices ok. No toilet paper in the morning, where does it go?

Hostel response:
Simone,
thanks to your suggestion we will arrange a check early in the morning in the public bathrooms.
Thank you

we had problems with the shower. the space is too small for one person, imagine if someone really big need to get there to take a shower ... the hostel could provide more tourist tips for guests.

Hostel response:
Kind Rossandra,
we are renewing all the bathroom. The problem will be fixed in next spring.
About the tips our reception staff is available 24hrs for that. Also in our website there is a section named "what to visit".
For every place you can find informations, costs and more.

Thank you
