Saint-Etienne - Les Echandes Hostel is set in the heart of a wide conservation area, on the River Loire shores. The Youth Hostel is an authentic country hamlet, only 15 minutes away from Saint-Etienne. Equipped with modern facilities, and yet with stylish buildings, the hostel offers many cultural and sporting activities.

Nature reserve in the Gorges de la Loire, Natura 2000 area. For nature and sports lovers: mountain-bike, hiking trails, kayak, climbing, adventure tree climbing... A very nice and pleasant stay. The location is great, in a very charming natural environment. The only drawback perhaps is that it is a little bit hard to find, but worth of searching. If you have a GPS device it should be fairly easy to find it.

This is a splendid hostel. The staff were very helpful in every way.

We arrived at 9.15 pm. The reception was supposed to be open until 10 pm but the staff was out and nobody there. There was a notice in French which we could not understand. It mentioned a telephone number which we guessed was meant for emergencies. We called it but the number was engaged. We waited until 10.30 pm before the staff finally came back. He checked us in quickly but did not offer any apology for keeping us waiting.
