Ammarnäs is a genuine mountain village and is located in the Vindelfjället National Park. The Nature Reserve is one of the largest protected areas in Europe, but also a Sami cultural landscape. The area contains the three villages Gran, Ran and Ubmejen and remnants of several Sami settlements. The hostel is located in the middle of all this, and was used as an elderly Sami until 1968. Guests are accommodated in dormitories or cabins with four beds. Shared kitchen.
Kungsleden passes Ammarnäs and the hostel is an excellent start or end of a trip between Hemavan and Ammarnäs. Lakes and rivers offer top-class fishing. The year 2008 saw the premiere of ski competition Kungsledenrännet, a collaboration between the STF and Ammarnäs IF begins in Hemavan and along the Kungsled to Ammarnäs.
