Runde is well known for the 230 bird species that occupy the island every spring and summer. The most numerous is the puffin with about 100.000 pairs. The surrounding sea has the highest marine biodiversity in the whole of Norway, lavishly providing feed for the birds, whales and seals and seafood for people. Bridges and an underwater tunnel connect Runde to the mainland. There are daily boat trips from the harbour to the bird rock when the weather allows it, and it can also quite easily be accessed on foot.
