Now one year old, Reykjavík Downtown Hostel has firmly established itself as one of the most highly recommended Hostelling International hostels in the world. In the heart of the city of Reykjavík, a stones throw from the old harbour, a short walk from the main shopping streets and from many of the city's cultural centres, the hostel could barely be more ideally situated.
Housed in a beautifully renovated building in Reykjavík's old town, the hostel provides comfortable, modern accommodation. Facilities include free WiFi and a guest computer at reception, a coffee bar, a TV and a fully equipped guest kitchen and lounge. The hostel boasts spacious 4 and 10 bedded dorms, all with guest lockers, family rooms which accommodate up to 5 persons, and double rooms with shared or private facilities. Some rooms have spectacular views over the old harbour, Reykjavík bay and Mt. Esja.
The hostel also operates as an information centre and the friendly and knowledgeable staff are happy to recommend and arrange tours for you and give advice on the attractions of the area. Local excursions, sightseeing tours and activity and adventure tours can all be booked at reception, as well as car, motorbike and bicycle rental and local transportation. All tours and rentals include pick-up from the hostel.
The hostel is open 24 hours a day, all year round. Check-in is possible any time after 14.00. The FlyBus from Keflavik international airport has departures corresponding to all flights, and for a small extra charge, will also bring you to/from the door of the hostel. If you have a car, you will find metered parking directly outside the hostel which is free on evenings and Sundays. Otherwise, free parking is always available only a short walk away.
Reykjavík Downtown Hostel is a Swan certified hostel. Swan certification is a trusted ecological label in the Nordic countries, which demonstrates a well considered and thorough environmental policy. | Had a very nice time at Downtown Hostel, very helpful and friendly staff. | ||

| It's a very nice hostel with great and friendly staff. I don't have any complaints but a recommondation: pictures on the wall in the private rooms and a little light next to the bed would make the room even more comfortable. It was very, very basic (compared to the private rooms at the San Francisco Downtown Hostel)! Hostel response: | ||

| Bedlinen for 950ISK and getting only a sheet and a towel (which I didn't need) is rather expensive. A pillow and a blanket are included in the standard fare. If I would have known this before I wouldn't have taken the bedlinen, a blanket is enough if you only stay 1 night. | ||

| Really liked the bathroom. I stayed in a dorm but the bathroom was really nice. Not disgusting in the slightest. Only one computer for internet access, if that bothers you. Only thing that put me off was the communal areas. Didn't exactly have an exciting vibe, which is what I prefer. It has more of a clean, cool & relaxed vibe which is good for many people. And the staff are very helpful. | ||

| This is without a doubt one of the best hostels I've ever stayed at. The staff members are friendly and helpful, and the location is simply unbeatable. This was my second stay here in two years. I had such a great time here the first trip, when it came time to plan for a second I didn't even consider anywhere else. And it was a wonderful place to spend New Year's Eve...the staff made it a lot of fun! Hostel response: | ||
