Qingdao Observatory, the first observatory in China, is home of our youth hostel, which is situated on Mt. Observatory in the heart of Qingdao, it is a hidden gem from which to explore China’s most vibrant coastal city. It overlooks the Qingdao Bay, most hostel rooms have a panoramic view over the city’s skyline. The national ground zero point for China’s altitude is located right in front of the hostel. Many historical buildings are located near the Old Observatory making it a superb location to view historical landmarks including ZhanQiao Pier, Beach No. 1, German Governor Castle, Old Town Hall, Mt. Xiaoyu Shan Park.

The rooftop is the Mamahuhu Lounge, truly it is the most beautiful spot to see the skyline while enjoy the cozy atmosphere with friends with beers or coffee.

Staff were very nice and spoke good English. But the bathrooms are not clean enough.

No suitable communal place to sit and use laptop or read in the evenings, bar is too loud. Showers were not clean and only two public showers for the whole hostel. No toilet on the first floor. 4 bed dorm was very small, about the same size as a double room. Good location nearby old town if you don't mind a short uphill walk :)

Hostel response:
Hi, thanks for choosing us, we have two bars, one at the first floor and one on the rooftop, the one in the first floor is very quiet, why not using that one for reading or internet? We have a very nice toilet on the first floor, right next to the reception. In total, we have 15 dorm bed, and 2 shower rooms are not too many, but we think it should meet the needs in most cases. A complete cleaning has scheduled in there. Sorry for the inconveniences. Cheers

Too many Chinese people were staying here...I know that sounds terrible, but the point of going to an International Youth Hostel is to meet people of every different background, all traveling around the world. You want to meet people you can share experiences with...when the hostel is used instead as a budget hotel by locals who have no interest in meeting new people, it takes away from the enjoyment of your stay.

Hostel response:
Fernando, We are one of the top 5 hotels/hostels in Qingdao to host foreign guests for 5 years, according to Qingdao Tourist Office. But I am very sorry to learn that you find that you don't what to meet other Chinese when you are travelling in China and wanted to experience the culture... and it is a shamed to read that you feel "terrible" to stay with other Chinese...
