The Youth Hostel at Portalegre, located in the upper part of Alentejo, the town of Portalegre is known for the quality of its exquisite tapestry. As you wander through the nature reserve of Serra de São Mamede, there is a high chance of seeing a dolmen or a menhir, like the ones Obelix carries on his back. Visiting Castelo de Vide is a must. You'll love the whitewashed houses and the castle up on the hill - it is a unique site in Portugal. And what about Marvão? The view from the top of this medieval village is absolutely spectacular.
