Welcome to Pontarlier – Town center & altitude.
In the centre of the town of Pontarlier, this renovated hostel is well suited to families. It is a pleasant place to stay with comfortable rooms (all equipped with showers and lavatories and some with toilets). The hostel’s warm ambiance brings together authenticity and gastronomy – let us know what you think of the hot Mont d’Or cheese and Morteau sausage…
The Ski area There are so many cross-country skiing trails in the Haut Doubs that you can’t help but go for a long trek. 32 loops for all levels let everybody explore the region and perfect their skiing style, whether classical or skating. The 175 km of the Grande Traversée du Jura also run through this region; you won’t be able to resist its charms! With 40 km of slopes, the Métabief ski area on the slopes of Mont d’Or, the summit of the Doubs, has something for everyone: slopes for all tastes and all levels, a snowpark, a luge track, a fully equipped and secured ski area accessible to the whole family.
The Slopes 1,000 m / 1,470 m Downhill skiing – Hostel 15 km from the slopes (shuttles on request) Métabief ski area, 26 slopes (20 km) including 2 black, 11 red, 8 blue and 5 green. Cross-country skiing – Hostel 3 km from the trails (vehicle necessary) 210 km of marked trails laid out on the Nordic sites of La Malmaison and Le Larmont (links with Switzerland), Les Verrières-de-Joux and Les Granges Dessus. The Grande Traversée du Jura (175 km of slopes).
The town Located at an altitude of 837 m, nestled in the greenery between Larmont Mountain (1,323 m) and the Arlier Plain (actually, a high-altitude plateau), Pontarlier is the 2nd highest town in France after Briançon. Mountains and nature are everywhere, but it is also rich in culture and history.
Located 830m above sea level, with pure and fresh air, Pontarlier has all the advantages of mid-high mountains. From the Youth Hostel, you can just put on your hiking shoes: hiking trails are only a few meters from there, and Switzerland is only 10 km away! Back at the hostel, sports lovers will be entiltled to local products tasting.

| It is a very isolated place, and we do not speak too much French, we found people to be very unhelpful even when we tried speaking French. | ||

| Stay was cancelled by YH Pontarlier one day after booking without adequate statement ("en raison de fermeture de notre auberge ce week-end du 1 mai 2011"). Nevertheless the deposit (environ 5 Euros) was debited from hihostels.com. Hence our journey had complety to be rescheduled. | ||
