Le Monacelle, built in 1594, was once the Conservatory of Santa Maria della Pietà. This Convent, restructured in 2000 became a receptive and congressional structure of great charm. It is situated inside the complex of the Sasso Barisano characterized by the canyon ploughed by the stream “Torrente Gravina”, which is visible whilst overlooking the terraces of the hostel. It is impossible to list all the sites and the monuments present in the Sassi, considered by Unesco as part of the listed World Heritage Sites, nevertheless you must not miss the opportunity to visit the Cloister of Sant'Eustachio, the Cathedral and the Church of San Giuseppe. You must also take advantage of the numerous guided tours to visit the Parks of the Murgia and the Chiese Rupestri. In summer it is possible to participate in the " Monacelle Cultura", an event hosting many different cultural activities along which Music, Theater and Cinema.

It was well out of season, so very quiet.. so it was not possible to make contacts. It is a beautiful place and impressive how it has been converted into a nice hostel/hotel.. very well organised and in a perfect position in the old town. I would recommend it!

The staff were extremely unfriendly. Do they really hate visitors so much that they can't even smile? The receptionist also appeared not to know that I had already paid a deposit on the internet. Apart from those two points the place was wonderful. An excellent conversion of an old building, a safe place to store my bike, right behind the Duomo so easy to find (it would help if they said that in the directions instead of just showing a not very clear map) and central heating! Very welcome in south Italy in the winter.

It's a beautifull place, nice dormatories which even offer some privacy; but you can not enter them from 10.00 till 19.00h. This is too long.

The feeling, location, view - all amazing. And, the hostel rooms are arranged in a way that feels private, the way that the beds are arranged ~ it's almost like having private space...except for the guest to bathroom ratio.

Fantastic location and building, but only 2 bathrooms for unisex dormitory with 16 beds. Imagine the morning sanitory chaos and snoring at night :-(

Beautiful place! But if guests don't have the 'can't be in room between 11am and 7pm' curfew, it would be even better. Great breakfast as well!
