Set on a hill in a magnificent 19th century château, Chateau du Bois-Luzy is surrounded by 8-hectares of public park. This Napoleon III building is spectacular to look at and offers wonderful views of Marseille.

On the inside the hostel is as attractive, with a sky-lit reception hall, wrought-iron balconies and mosaic-tiled floors. On offer are 4 – 8 bedded dorms, and facilities including a kitchen, common room, TV room, laundry and a large dining room that looks out across the gardens to the Basilique Notre Dame de la Garde.

Chateau du Bois-Luzy is just 200m from the nearest bus-stop and 4.5km from the city centre, an area with a rich heritage and vibrant culture. France's second largest city, Marseille has a colourful harbour, charming old town and a plethora of museums to visit.

The hostel offers a range of sports facilities including volleyball, basketball, football and tennis, and Marseille offers a variety of activities to suit all tastes, from fishing, golf or hiking to cycling, sailing or sea kayaking.

I recommend checking the cleanliness of the covers. Maybe for some simple mistakes, some blankets are dirty with bird poop (room 122 and 123).

The week before my departure i read the reviews about this hostel (i know... wrong way around). Reading the different reviews almost made me decide to cancel my resarvation, but i'am glad i didn't! Chateau du Bois-Luzy is situated on a hill in the 12th district of The place is BEAUTIFUL and the view is STUNNING. Make sure that you arrive when the reception is opened! (08:00 / 10:00 and from 17:00 / 20:00). Pro's - Beautiful building and view - Frendly staff (if present) - Safe location and neighborhood - Breakfast is simple but the food is fresh Con's - Far from the center of Marseille - Rooms and sanitary dated (but clean) Marseille is a big (and sometimes dangerous) city but has only a little to offer to tourists. It's central location in the south of France, makes it easy to travel to Italy or Spain. If you want to spend a night in a typical Frensh building for 1 or 2 night, this is a beautiful place! I expected all hihostels to have similar standard but this one was way below. No proper doors to lock the showers is not acceptable when both males and females use it. Also when we arrived in the evening there was someone else sleeping in our room who didn't even have the key for our room. How good is the security?

For me, this youth hotel is very very dirty and the room is uncomfortable. Also, the hotel has a bad smell. Location is terrible far away from city center and hard to find it.

Beautiful location, really nice stuff, nice old style kitchen : ), I loved breakfast - simple not a lot choice, but really nice products : ) We are looking forward to ready reconstruction - like opening of next dining room and also using of potential of your roof terrace. It would be also great to could get directly to the parc - I know it is difficult cause it is public and has opening hours....but maybe...

Very nice staff and very nice location! The view over Marseille is beautiful. It's a pity that the last bus to the hostel is around 8.30 pm and the first evening we were trying to reach the hostel we found it a little bit difficult. The rooms are OK(but warm, definitely no AC) But I do recommend this hostel, mostly because of the good view, the cool building and the cheap price!

the rooms are small, not enough space for putting your clothes, no lamps by the beds, bad showers, no pc's for internet,... nice breakfast but bad coffee

We had a terrible experience here during our month long trip across Europe. Staff was rude, and we had a nasty experience with bed bugs. Ended up sleeping on a bench in the kitchen as to not carry on an infestation of bed bugs with us for the rest of the trip. We were not refunded or given new rooms as there is no night staff on duty. Would never recommend this place to anyone, nor will I ever come back.
