Mannheim - also called “Quadratstadt” (“City of Squares”) because the inner city is laid out in a grid pattern - has a lot to offer: museums, parks, nightlife ... Our youth hostel is the ideal base to explore this exciting city and the various attractions of the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Area. We’re happy to help with planning and organising your stay.

Since 2010 our building has been continuously modernised and extended and hopefully by October 2011 we’ll be able to welcome you in a brand-new, modern hostel!

Street Map and Route Planning

Directions

Bus:Code for the navigation system: 49,478074° 8,462948°
Location:Urban feel and lots of greenery. 1606 Elector Friedrich IV of the Palatinate designed the grid-like street network still in use today: the squares. How about a walk from A1 to L4? Far to see is the landmark of Mannheim: the water tower with an impressive 60 meters hight. In contrast, baroque splendor radiates the largest palace in Germany with university and lavish palace museum. Destination for sports fans is the SAP Arena. Cheer for the Mannheim Eagles, the hockey-record holder, now! Today just sunbathing? The lawn on the river Rhine is right outside the hostel. Rain announced? The interactive exhibits at the State Museum for Technology and Work is waiting for experimenters! The hostel is located in the borough Lindenhof on the Rhine promenade in the middle of the old castle park near the city center.
Rail:The main train station is app. 5 minutes walking distance from the youth hostel. Take care to leave the train station in direction "Lindenhof". Then follow the sign "Victoria Tower", at the top of the stairs turn left (first sign "Jugendherberge"). Continue straight (road and railway line crossing Lindenhof Square) and follow the "Rennhoferstrasse" up to the stairs leading to the hostel.

Overall an excellent experience, but really you should get wifi, it can be difficult for travellers to get in touch with people/ book tickets or tours and such without it.

Just renovate this hostel. Having to stay there is just a "Zumutung" and jeopardizes HiHostel's good reputation.

was unpleased with how run down the place looked on the inside (lots of graffeti on bed and walls of room). however i will take into account that the hostel was under construction, being remodeled, so i think that will fix the place up nicely when its completed. they will need to keep ontop of it though so it doesnt revert to what it is now.

Easliy the worst hostel that I have ever stayed in by a long long way. I was in room 4 and it smelt like an old peoples house and seemed very damp inside. The staff where very unhelpful to no help at all. The reception always seemed shut. There where alot of rules to follow. 20 euros for a key deposit. I would recommend that if you come to Mannheim just stay in Heildelberg just 15 minutes on the train and way better accommidation. I can"t understand way this hostel rates so high at all. DON"T STAY HERE.

Not that nice ATM, but will probably be when they finish the renovation (end 2011).

The all-you-can-eat breakfast was fabulous, and the young lady who checked me in was super-helpful!
