The new hub for travellers of the Amazon - an Australian owned hostel, located between the famous Teatro Amazonas and Palacio Rio Negro - the perfect base from which to explore the unique city of Manaus and to prepare yourself for the mysteries of the surrounding Amazon Jungle.
Just three blocks from the famous Teatro Amazonas, two blocks from the city center and one block from the main bus line - HOSTEL MANAUS is the perfect base from which to explore the unique city of Manaus and to prepare yourself for the mysteries of the surrounding Amazon Jungle.
HOSTEL MANAUS is on Rua Lauro Cavalcante, a quiet residential street, set back from the bustle of this thriving metropolis. Here you will find yourself chatting for hours with fellow travellers after a hearty hostel breakfast in the outdoor dining area. Watch a DVD, or take advantage of our unlimited web access in the spacious lounge. Chill out in a hammock with a good book on our famous roof-top patio with its privileged views of the Palacio Rio Negro. In the evening, kick back with friends, music and a good caipirinha from our bar in the hostel beer garden - all without breaking the budget.
The building itself is a heritage listed site, one of the original residences, built during the rubber boom of the 19th Century. After extensive renovations, the hostel now boasts 40 beds, with guest use kitchen and laundry. HOSTEL MANAUS caters for everyone's needs in comfort and seurity - from individual travellers, to large groups - all without losing the homely feel of the building's original ambience. To ensure privacy, our spacious male and female dormitory rooms have just four or six beds, with large individual lockers under each bed for storing whole travel packs. Private single and double rooms are also available, with the choice of air-conditioning and ensuite bathroom.
Our friendly, multilingual staff are available to answer your queries on places of interest in and around the city, giving extra tips and advice you won’t find in your guide book. We also arrange jungle tours; from one day trips, to week-long jungle expeditions. If you are traveling alone, this is the perfect place to meet a group of like-minded travelers and plan your ultimate jungle experience.
HOSTEL MANAUS is owned and operated by an Australian. It is the only hostel in the city affiliated with the HOSTELLING INTERNATIONAL group. HOSTEL MANAUS has been recommended by the Lonely Planet, Footprints, Routard, The Rough Guide and was recently featured on The Travel Channel as the first HI hostel of the Amazon. Watch out for HOSTEL MANAUS, set to appear in the up-coming editions of other well known travel publications.
WARNING: Be aware of a higher priced competitor in the city, now using the similar name "Manaus Hostel Trip Tour"and "Manaus Hostel". To ensure that you have arrived at the original HOSTEL MANAUS, look for the HI symbol and the Australian flag on the front door.
At the airport and on the airport bus, travelers may be approached by unauthorized tour operators offering 'information' on accommodation and jungle tours. Since HOSTEL MANAUS does not recommend these operators to our guests, these operators may try to convince you not to stay here. Don't be misled by false information. HOSTEL MANAUS is a quality hostel. It has the reviews to prove it. Come and see for yourself why HOSTEL MANAUS is the best value backpacker accommodation the city of Manaus has to offer.

| The hostel provided excellent service - even organising the ferry to Belem and transfers to the boat. Nothing was too much trouble | ||

| Lovely hostel. Air conditioned rooms. Friendly staff. Great location. Good facilities. Nice dorms (solid bunks). Comfortable private rooms. Good security. Individual, large lockers under each bunk (needs own medium sized padlock). Good laundry service. Free internet. | ||

| Stayed here for one night before heading to the jungle with 'Antonio Amazon Jungle Tours' (amazing by the way), but the hostel wasnt really up to much unfortunately. Not to complain too much, we only paid £20 for the night, just found it very stuffy, not aircon in the public areas and very overcrowded at times with people coming and going from tours. Great location for Antonios tour because his business is based there, but dont be fooled, the lodges they have in the jungle are twice as good as the room we stayed in in this hostel unfortunately. | ||

| The organisation is very bad. We had to move 2 times our room. They don't speak english. They can't help you when you ask for information.
The atmosphere isn't good, the staff don't like their work. They never laugh.
They say you can use the kitchen, but the only cooking pots they have are filles with food of themselves.
The breakfast isn't hygienic. On the bread there are ants.
You can't pay by card. | ||

| Our first booking was for this hostel was lost. The first floor bathroom is not very clean and smells. The bed sheets did not fit the beds and one had a hole in it. You're not given a key and must rely on the storage space under the bunk bed for any measure of security. Inefficiency of staff when we checked in for our second stay and annoyance of having to fill out the same exact form as we did our first stay even though it was merely four days afterwards. Lack of working fan and overhead light in our room. Missing insect screen on one window.
Pros: good location. Inexpensive. Safe neighborhood. | ||

| Very nice place near of center of the city and main historical points. Very friendly and attentive staff, specially the Manager, Laurence, he gave me all support and tips about what to visit and the best itineraries, beyond to promote my integration with the other hostel guests, I was tripping alone and it was great. Recomend for all. Thank you Laurence and guys. | ||

| Desorganizado: quando chegamos nosso quarto estava ocupado. As toalhas e roupas de cama estão bem velhas, seria melhor o hostel comprar novas e cobrar por elas. | ||

| Excellent location. I could visit all the most important tour spots on foot. I felt safe in the surroundings. Hope to return for long trips by boat to other small villages in the Amazon Forest. | ||

| HORRIBLE, rude staff. Everyone was talking about how the owner was changing, so no one there cared about the place. Didn't have our right room ready, didn't apologize but we were promised a discount, and at the end, another guy tried to scam us for a "new price" (NOT the one I agreed to online when I booked), and then we found out that we weren't even in the computer bookings! NEVER stay here. | ||

| I usually love HI hostels, & stayed in 3 others while in Brazil but this one was AWFUL. The staff were so rude! It was a clean building, but Id never stay here again. Our room wasnt ready (we booked private quarters w/bathroom), so we were told wed stay in a private room with no bathroom the first night. No big deal, but he wasn´t apologetic. We had to leave the room the next morning, but our next room wasn´t ready yet, so we had to store bags for a few hours (they wouldnt even give us locks, they told us to buy them). WORST thing was that when we were checking out at 5am, we were´nt even in the computer system! then the guy at front desk started showing me the admin emails with someone elses name in it from another COUNTRY (same first name, thats IT) and said it must be me! He tried to hit me up for `new room rate`, but I was angry & fed up (especially since they never even booked us in the 1st place),they gave us a small discount off our original agreed rate. HORRIBLE place. | ||
