Lousã is a new modern hostel, which offers a self catering kitchen, laundry facilities, a common room, a bar, lockers, parking facilities and internet access. The Lousã hostel is one of the HI network of hostels in Portugal and is a must for nature and adventure breaks. Lousã is located in the centre of Portugal – about 30 km southeast from Coimbra.
Lousã is a charming town with beautiful landscapes in which the plains join the mountainous ridge, and with its magnificent 18th-century houses (such as Palácio dos Salazares). In Serra da Lousã, there is marvellous scenery of mountains and valleys near the Zêzere River, visitors can experience a wide range of outdoor activities. There are all sorts of thematic circuits, from mountain bike, all road or horse riding to simply walking. It is worth admiring the three shrines that form the Santuário da Nossa Senhora da Piedade (Sanctuary of Our Lady of Piety), near the Castle of Arouce, all surrounded by hills, olive groves and dense vegetation. A visit to the traditional villages around there (Talasnal, Vaqueirinho, Chiqueiro and Casal Novo) is also worthwhile, essential to understand why people say that Lousã has a schist heart!
For all this, Lousã Youth Hostel is a must for “Nature and Adventure” breaks, offering a friendly and relaxing stay for those who seek tranquillity and nature.
