Travel Tip Ralph, Netherlands (Traveller):
«There's a restaurant jua couple of miles to the south where you can eat for reasonable prices, same town has a 'supermarket' that isn't really that superb.» | more...

Ideally placed for exploring to the east or the west, Loch Ness Youth Hostel is situated halfway along the banks of the infamous Loch Ness. Only 30 minutes from the newly-created city of Inverness and about two hours from the Isle of Skye, there's plenty to do in the area. The Great Glen long distance path passes the door, and the end-to-end Great Glen cycling route is nearby. From the Hostel there is easy access to the loch shore, and you will have plenty of opportunities for Nessie-watching from most of the bedrooms. You might even mount a challenge to the endurance record for swimming in the loch (30 minutes held by the hostel assistant!). We have a piano and an organ so, if you're musically inclined, we'd love you to entertain us. Bring your own instrument for a spontaneous ceilidh!. We always have a varied bunch of hostellers staying, so an international knees-up is always a possibility! Our well-appointed and brilliantly equipped kitchen is ideal for culinary experimentation - remember to bring ingredients with you as the Hostel is exclusively self-catering. We do stock basic tinned foods, cereals and, of course, chocolate. Also don't miss: the Official and the Original Monster Exhibition Centres in Drumnadrochit (15km) Urquhart Castle & visitor centre, sitting impressively on the edge of Loch Ness (10km) Jacobite Cruises from/to Inverness and Urquhart Castle - Tomnahurich Bridge (40km) The Clansman Centre, Fort Augustus (15km) Scotsman Cruises, Fort Augustus (15km) Also try & make a Highland Gathering at Fort Augustus. And lastly, if you want to get away from everything, head up to Glen Affric and walk this stunning area with its native forests and waterfalls and Munros. Internet access at the Hostel. Private rooms available.
