Had a single room which was clearly a smoking room. There was no way to get rid of the smell. Good, all-you-can-eat breakfast.

The only negative aspect I could mention are the showers. While they appeared pretty clean, they were also really tiny, so one can hardly move at all, at least in my opinion. If the doors of the shower cabine would open outwards instead of inwards it would already help a lot in my opinion. But apart from that, everything was great as I came to expect from the HI group.

Unfortunately we did not stay at Lausanne, we had to cut our holiday short and return home due to medical reasons

Make sure you don't take the family room unless and until you occupy the entire room. If you are single or a couple please take the regular dorm room

WiFi was not free, which is surprising and slightly disappointing in 2011. Is not really in a central location and takes learning the local transport system to really be pratical.

kind of dark in the room if you keep the curtain shut, but no privacy if you open it, especially if you stay in the ground floor.

On the day I checked in I was told that you would have to check with the kitchen to see if I could half-board. The following day, because no one got back to me I asked the kitchen staff who said yes. However, despite this I was not able to pay for the item because it was under the 30 CHF credit card limit. It took 10 minutes of arguing to actually pay & left a nasty feeling about the hostel.
