Constance on the lake of the same name is the only German city on the south bank of the Rhine. Until 1827 this university town was the seat of a diocese and the Council of Constance was held here (1414-1418). The council building and the Romanesque-Gothic cathedral still bear witness to the city’s past. Completely renovated in 2001, the youth hostel is an old water tower located in the northern suburb of Allmannsdorf.

| A great hostel and if you get to stay in the tower fantastic view. Just a pity about all those stairs to the 8th floor. English speaking staff a great advantage. | ||

| too many young children. staff at front could have been warmer. the beds were not so comfortable and I did not appreciate having to pay extra for a towel. Also, location was pretty far away from the train station which made for an expensive taxi ride. | ||
