Kirkwall SYHA Hostel is the perfect base to explore all that Orkney has to offer, whether you stay on the mainland or decide to go island-hopping!
The hostel is in a quiet location, a fifteen minute walk away from Kirkwall Town Centre and Scapa Beach, and only ten minutes away from the local shops. The hostel comes with a large, fully equipped self-catering kitchen as well as a good-sized dining room and a cosy lounge area which are ideal for relaxing and socialising. Internet access is also available.
Due to its layout, the hostel is well-equipped for individual travellers, couples and groups (up to 35 people), and offers a range of private rooms.
Apart from stunning scenery and a treasure of Neolithic and Viking heritage, Orkney offers a wealth of festivals: from the big ones like the Orkney Folk Festival in May and the St. Magnus Festival in June, to the internationally acclaimed Science Festival in September, and the more intimate Storytelling Festival in October. Year round there is an abundance of wildlife to watch, from seals to whales, and from otters to thousands of seabirds. Come early or late in the season, and you may very well be able to see the Northern Lights!

Customer Reviews Kirkwall SYHA

| The staff were top of the line, one of the best that I've ever see. The hostel was a little bit run out, the biggest trouble for us was the lack of outlets in the room, but the staff had made all the possible for help us. We give them 10!! | ||

| Staff were great, building is tired - unexplained shower workings and few power points to charge phones etc. | ||

| Great hostel to stay in. Staff were very friendly and helpful and seemed to enjoy meeting all the different travellers. The dorms were fairly small which was good - some hostels have 20 people to a room, but in Orkney we shared with 2 others. Great kitchen facilities. | ||

| The staff was absolutely charming, went out of their way to help you. I would go back for them. The YHI is however a bit old, and above all, it has no wifi, which is a big problem in 2012. I spent a lot of money at the local café just to be able to use their wifi. | ||

| Would have liked the option of en-suite facilities (as availability was indicated in SYHA booklet). Hot water availability an issue at morning times- otherwise, a fine stay with helpful staff & management. | ||
