Stay in this small and friendly Hostel, with its cosy family rooms, situated in the scenic Royal Burgh of Inveraray. The town, built in the 18th century, sits on the shore of Loch Fyne - a large sea loch famous for its kippers! Although Inveraray is now no longer the county town, it is still a bustling place and an ideal centre from which to explore. Why not head for the Mull of Kintyre and the Cowal peninsula or the islands of Islay, Jura, Gigha and Arran? The Castle, where the Duke of Argyll lives, is also the ancestral seat of the Clan Campbell and the annual Highland Games are held on the last Tuesday of July in its splendid grounds. Why not play golf on the 9-hole course or a game of tennis on the courts next to the Hostel, swim in Loch Fyne or in the pool in the hotel of the same name, or watch the salmon leaping on the River Aray? There are plenty of local walks and a few hills to climb nearby. A 1779 a visitor from London remarked: 'Inveraray to me is the noblest place in Scotland'. Pay us a visit in order to find out why! Hostel has 'Walkers Welcome', 'Cyclists Welcome' and 'Green Tourism Business' awards. Other attractions: the Argyll Wildlife Park (good for kids), Crarae gardens. Auchendrain Folk Museum, the 'Arctic Penguin' triple-masted schooner. The area is famous for its seafood - oysters as well as kippers! Shops close by the town.
