An awesome place for those who intends to stay someplace cheap in HK for a night or two. It's near the Big Buddha, Lantau peak hike and wisdom path.

Too much insect in the shower room

Hostel response:
Meimei, thank you for your comments. In the countryside, it is inevitable that insects exist everywhere. But we will try our best to keep insects away from our hostel areas.

This place is run down and needs a good clean but it is very peaceful and relaxing with some wonderful hikes very close by. Just be aware that the whole village closes down at 6pm so you won't be able to buy anything. Also, the buses stop at the same time and be aware that the bus costs $17.50 each way so you will need to factor that into your costs. I found it a nice relaxing get away from the city and Brian was lovely.

Hostel response:
Thanks Kathryn. As the surrounding spots are closed after 6pm, hostellers are suggested bringing some food before arriving at the hostel. Agree with you that Ngong Ping is a peaceful and relaxing place especially with attractions such as the Wisdom Path, the Giant Buddha, and Po Lin Monastery. Hostellers can also take a tour to Tai O (a small traditional fishing village) by hopping on bus #21 from Ngong Ping to Tai O http://www.newlantaobus.com/road_21.htm

The manager on duty, Brian Tsui, was outstanding--------very friendly and helpful. The cleanliness of the microwave oven and parts of the kitchen area were poor, but Brian quickly cleaned the microwave (he had been away on holidays for 2 weeks, so whoever was in charge in his absence apparently did not do the job !) James Winters

Hostel response:
James, thanks for your advice.

What I appreciated most was the fact that it was quiet and away from all the hussle and bussle of downtown Hong Kong. This peacefulness combined with the great service I recieved from the Ngong host at this hostel made it an ideal location for me to relax and enjoy the beautiful mountain surroundings.

Hostel response:
Hope to see you again at our hostel soon.

Not easy to take bus after 7pm to the hostel. The place is very quiet avoid check in after dark.

Hostel response:
Thanks Ling Zhi. We suggest hostellers arriving Tung Chung on Lantau Island before 5pm. Then, buy some food in a supermarket (located at the shopping mall in Tung Chung) and take the last bus which departs at 6:10 pm.

The hostel-keeper is very kind and helpful, but this place is almost impossible to find. Don't bother with the instructions provided- just ask one of the store keepers outside of the monastery. They are used to helping confused hostellers. It is a ten minute walk into the wilderness, and the place looks straight out of a horror film- secluded, poorly lit, with a barbed-wire fence. It was December and there was no heat, which usually isn't a problem in Hong Kong but we were a bit chilled. Everything on the mountain closes after 6 and doesn't open until 9 or 10 at the earliest. That means you're on your own for evening entertainment. We were the only ones there, so we made the best of the creepy vibe.

Hostel response:
Thanks Jordan.
