The myth tell us that Hjo is an abbreviation for the Latin phrase Hic Jacet Otium - Here lies the tranquility. And yes, that's right. Hjo is the picturesque Wooden Town with charming cobblestone streets and a pleasant marina with restaurants.
From the resort era of the late 1800s are more beautiful turn of the century houses preserved. In one of them is the hostel located in the center of Hjo park. The park was established in 1876 and is very lush, beautiful and pleasant to stroll around in.
The park features a large playground, tennis courts and miniature golf. In the former hot-bath house is an exciting water Aquarium with the experimental department. And within walking distance of the harbor with heated outdoor pool, restaurants and ice cream parlors. At the port where the stream has its end to the lake is also a nature reserve which is a popular recreational area.
