Hjørring is one of Denmark's 3 oldest towns, with churches dating from the early middle ages, and thanks to a considerate urban renewal scheme the town has maintained its original historical character. The old, narrow buildings and ancient merchants' town houses can be seen around small squares and in the old streets. The general appearance of the town is peppered with sculp-tures, fountains, columns, water art, and murals. The town's growth is visible in the new industrial areas and in the typically Danish villa quarters. Hjørring is a green town with parks and beautiful scenery. Hjørring is also the venue for the annual Dana Cup, one of the biggest youth football tournaments in the world, with around 800 participating teams. Please check hostel for low-season prices.
