Located on a group of islands off the coast of Helsinki, Suomenlinna is a maritime fortress and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A ferry-crossing from the Market Square to Suomenlinna takes just 15 minutes and costs no more than other public transport tickets. Ferries operate from early morning until 2 a.m. Our hostel is just a stone’s throw from the main pier.

In addition to accommodation, we offer meals and services for meetings and events. If you are looking for something other than just an ordinary city hostel, Hostel Suomenlinna is an ideal choice for you. Formerly a primary school, our hostel is equipped with modern conveniences, WiFi and a computer for guest use.

Hostel Suomenlinna is part of the organization of Finnish youth centres (Suomen Nuorisokeskukset ry). When you use the services provided by our hostel, you simultaneously contribute to child and youth work. The main task of national youth centres is to support the work of teachers and trainers and promote national and international youth activities.

Our hostel has both twin and triple rooms as well as larger dormitories. Guests can also use our communal areas, kitchen and dining room upstairs and living room downstairs. Hostel Suomenlinna offers discounts to Euro26 card holders. Our youth prices are available for groups of 5 people or more, and group members must be under the age of 29. The person making the booking must have a valid Euro26 card.

If you are looking for a more exotic place to be experienced than Helsinki already is or more peacefull and relaxing environment than a normal hostel/city environment is, Hostel Suomenlinna and Suomenlinna islands are an excellent choice for you. In addition, by using the services of Hostel Suomenlinna you will support the Finnish youth work, as the main purpose of the national Youth Centres is to support the work of teachers and trainers and to be of service to national and international youth activities. Hostel Suomenlinna is run by the Finnish Youth Centre Association.

We are members of the European youth card and consider youth by affordable youth prices for groups with over 5 members (age limit 29 years). A valid european youth card is required.

An advice for the crew: don't clean the bathroom before check-out : it was complicated to take a shower before 10.00 am because the bathroom was closed to be cleaned ...

Wonderful location on the island. Ferry is very convenient, no troubles getting there. The island is beautifully quiet. Be sure to save time for a walk through the old fortress.

I wouldn't recommend this place if you are a woman travelling alone because there are no female only rooms. So I was in a 6-bed room with only a strange older guy and I wasnt really able to sleep that whole night. There is no staff aroun during the nights.
