Germany has many islands but only one genuine deep-sea island: Heligoland. The solitary 58m red sandstone rock offers unforgettable views and just off the island you’ll find the “Bathing Dune” with its extended beaches where you can swim protected from the tides.
Heligoland Youth Hostel is located 15 min from the jetty, directly by the dyke in the north-eastern part of the low plain.

Directions
| Sea port: | There are boat links from Cuxhaven, Hamburg, Büsum, Hörnum (Sylt), Bremerhaven, Wilhelmshaven and other North Sea ports. A peculiarity of the island is offshore disembarking. Boats drop anchor in a place protected by the rocks and passengers are brought ashore in small, open boats. |
