The Wentworth Hostel is located in the picturesque Wentworth valley, which has something to offer visitors every season of the year. The hostel is one of the HI network of hostels in Canada and one of three hostels in Nova Scotia. Open all year the hostel has activities to keep all of our guests busy.
The hostel is located an hour and half north of Halifax and is between Amherst and Truro on the old trans-canada highway, which is now the 104.
The Wentworth Hostel is one of the first hostels in Nova Scotia dating back to 1954. The hostel is over 130 years old. The original owners/occupants of the old farm house was John Livingston, who was indeed a famer.
The hostel is open all year and there activities to keep all of our guests busy. In the winter months, we have the Wentworth ski hill. With 22 runs, a huge half pipe, this hill offers excitement for the skier and boader. The hostel has a ski room with a fire place that has cross-country ski's, snowshoes for rent and are always up for a cup of hot chocolate with anyone who wants one. Right behind the hostel there is over 20kms of trails for x-country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking.
In the summer and fall there is areas for camping, swimming, waterfalls, cliff jumping, beaches, canoeing, kayaking, tidal bore rafting and hiking. If you hike to the top of the ski hill and follow the trail, you can see PEI and the conferation bridge.
The Wentworth Hostel provides 24 beds in a very cozy atmosphere. It is a must stop over for all travellers entering Nova Scotia and a great stop for the outdoor adventurer. At the very least the house parent is always up for a good conversation and a cup coffee. Hope to see you there.
