Directions

Location Map
Bus:Transit ($2.50): Go out the front door of Pacific Central Station and walk across the street, where you will see a city bus stop. Catch #C21 Beach. You can get off at Thurlow and then walk up the hill to the hostel (but this is not easy with lots of luggage). The alternative is to ride the C21 all the way to the end of the line, and switch to a #6 Downtown or #C23 Main Street Station, which will come up the hill on Davie Street. Get off at Davie and Thurlow (at the Denny's Restaurant) and walk one block down Thurlow to Burnaby. Taxi (about $8): Grab a taxi at the Taxi Stand outside the station.
Parking:A limited number of outside parking spots are available for an extra charge of CAD$8.50 per night. Parking spots can be reserved at the Front Desk.
Location:We are located in the safe and quiet West End area of Downtown Vancouver, at the intersection of Burnaby Street and Thurlow Street.
Rail:Please refer to the bus station directions above since the Vancouver VIA Rail station is also at Pacific Central Station (Bus Station).
Airport:Public transit: Take the Canada Line train heading to downtown Vancouver. Get off at the Yaletown - Roundhouse stop. Exit to Davie Street. Board the C23 Davie bus westbound and take this bus to Thurlow St. (the stop is by the Shopper's Drug Mart). Cross the street at the lights and go South (down the hill) one block. We are on your right - on the corner of Thurlow and Burnaby Streets. Cost: $8.75 ($5.50 after 6.30pm and weekends). You will need correct change (pay for a 2 zone transfer before boarding the Canada Line). Time: 45 minutes. Taxi ride from the Airport is approximately $30.

This was a fairly good stay - we had a problem with our room and had to change, although this was sorted efficiently by staff. Some staff were excellent and friendly, but some were very grumpy! The beds were comfortable and the hostel was quiet. There is only one bathroom per very large floor which was a bit anoying when in a room at the opposite end of the corridor to a toilet. The kitchen was fantastic thoguh, and the free breakfast an excellent bonus, as was the car parking.

I stayed here one year ago, too. And I really have to say the hostel is a lot better as then! I've stayed in a few HI's in Canada and I never had such a good collection of spices in the kitchen. It still could be more cozy. I think it's one of the best hostels I had in Canada.

Dear Sir or Madam I must claim about a young male staff who was wearing a black Paragonia rain coat. He was the most unfriendly person I have ever met in any YHA cross the world. I had questions about travel information shown on the notice board which says "see the reception counter' Then I went to the counter and asked the male staff a few question. But what I heard from him was this is YHA, we dont help you while the notice board clearly says see the reception for booking. He was showing me very unhappy face and attitude. Meantime what I as surprised and shoked were I have seen he was so nice to other white hostel guests. He was working on Tue 03/01/2012, Hope he will fix his attitude up toward non white guests very shortly. Thank you.

top marks for everything but location; a bit of a trip to/from bus/rail station

Hostel response:
Good morning; Thanks for your feedback! I am glad you enjoyed your stay with us! Yes, we are about a 25 minute bus trip from the train station, which is not in Downtown. Also, it is located near quite a bit of industry. I hope you enjoyed our proximity to the Beach and the shopping district. Hope to see you again. Kind regards, Maicke Hostel Manager

This was my first hostel experience, and from what I heard from other guests, this was a very good one. Personally, I found the staff to be fine. The room was small (even for a hostel), the bunk beds creaked fairly loudly when climbing in (earplugs FTW!), and the ventilation was inadequate leading to a bit of a stale aroma in the room. Free breakfast and bicycle storage was a huge plus. Guests were very friendly. Price was great. Location was perfect: a quiet side street within 5-10 min walk of downtown. Would definitely stay again!
