Directions
| Metro: | From downtown San Francisco, take MUNI bus #76 to the Marin Headlands Visitors Center, a short walk from the hostel. This bus runs Sundays and holidays only. |
| Parking: | Free parking is available at the hostel on a first-come first-served basis. |
| Sea port: | The hostel is about 5 miles from Sausalito, where guest slips are available at many of the local marinas. |
| Location: | The hostel is about 5 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge. From the SOUTH: Take 101 North over the Golden Gate Bridge and exit on Alexander Avenue. Stay to the right as you exit and then drive a short distance to the first road (the road is not clearly marked, but it is called Bunker Road). Take a left onto Bunker Road until you come to a one-way tunnel. Drive through when prompted and then follow the directions under "From the Tunnel" below. From the NORTH: Take 101 South to the second exit for Sausalito (this is the final exit before you hit the Golden Gate Bridge). As you come off the exit, take a right toward Sausalito and then take the first left you encounter. At the one-way tunnel, drive through when prompted and then follow the directions under "From the Tunnel" below. From the TUNNEL: When you are out of the tunnel drive 2 miles west into the Headlands. At the fork in the road (Field Road), take a left and then follow the signs to the hostel. |
| Rail: | The most convenient Amtrak train station is in Emeryville, because Amtrak offers connecting bus service to San Francisco. When you purchase your train ticket, select "San Francisco - Financial District" as your final destination. From the Financial District bus stop, walk half a block south to Market Street, turn right and walk 2 blocks to Fremont Steeet. At Market and Fremont, take MUNI bus #76 to the Marin Headlands Visitors Center, a short walk from the hostel. This bus runs Sundays and holidays only. |
| Airport: | SHUTTLE: Marin Door To Door provides shuttle service from SFO to the hostel for US$40 (US$12 for each additional person). Reserve online and receive a $3 discount. CAR: See "From the SOUTH" directions in location section. |

Customer Reviews HI - Sausalito - Marin Headlands

| I love this place! My only slight critique is that it was a little difficult to find out information about the site itself. But, when the visitor center opened, all of my questions were answered!
The location is a small part of such a large, historical place; I really felt the weight of the history! Hostel response: | ||

| I did not know that I was supposed to bring my own breakfast. Some Hostels provide breakfast and some don't. It'd be good to be notified of it at the time of reservation. Hostel response: | ||

| We stayed in the coed dorm. The big exit sign with red light was shining in my face. This was the only challenge with the sleeping arrangement. Also I couldn't find the light for the women's shower area and was not able to get hot water in the early morning. My friend had to fiddle around with a few showers before he could get hot water in the men's shower. We were just so happy to be at the Marin Headlands that we didn't care. We will be returning and bringing friends. Thanks so much. Samantha is terrific! Hostel response: | ||

| You know what would be really awesome: sturdier bunks, perhaps made of wood or secured to the walls. But otherwise all was good. Hostel response: | ||
