HI-San Francisco Fisherman's Wharf hostel is the first and most famous hostel in the "City by the Bay." This is the ideal choice for travellers who want to stay in a park setting with stunning views, but still have easy access to the city's urban delights.
HI-San Francisco Fisherman's Wharf is housed in historic Fort Mason at the edge of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, one of California's most beautiful and diverse National Parks. The hostel sits right on the waterfront, overlooking the San Francisco Bay with stunning views of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge.
Scenic, paved foot/bike paths run from the hostel, along the water, east to Fisherman's Wharf and west to the Marina Green, making for a beautiful, bayside morning walk or ride whichever direction you choose. Fort Mason is worthy of exploration in and of itself, boasting theaters, galleries, and performance spaces as well as outdoor activities.
In addition to shared dorms we offer private rooms sleeping up to 4 people. Free linens and towels as well as daily housekeeping service are included, and laundry facilities are available on site.
A free continental breakfast is provided every morning in our on-site restaurant, Cafe Franco, with fruit, toast, bagels, or waffles. Cafe Franco also serves healthy, organic lunches and dinners at affordable prices, and you'll find locals as well as hostellers enjoying the great quality food and gorgeous views.
If you prefer to cook your own meals, we have a spacious, fully-equipped guest kitchen, and you can dine either in the large dining room or on the outdoor deck, both with the beautiful bay views.
The hostel is equipped with free WiFi, and provides high-speed Internet facilities for rent. Cozy up at the end of your long day of sightseeing next to the wood-burning stove in our lounge, or make new friends over the foosball and pool tables in the game room.
Be sure to take advantage of the free or low-cost activities the hostel organizes daily, such as pub-crawls, walking tours, and day trips out to the Napa Wine Country or to the gorgeous Yosemite Valley.

| My only complaint is that my 4-bed dorm was actually 5 beds, and the radiator next to my bed was REALLY loud. I wasn't sure I'd be able to sleep. It was okay with earplugs but did wake me up when it would start up. Maybe you should warn people about that room. | ||

| I enjoyed my stay at HI San Francisco- Fisherman's Wharf...the location is excellent with views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz
I was surprised that the mattresses were very stained in the dorm I was in....I have stayed in many YHAs in many countries and never encountered such stained bedding. My suggestion to you is to please clean your mattress covers.
I am staying in YHA International in Auckland, New Zealand at the moment and the bedding in the dorms is super fresh and clean.
Otherwise thank you for a nice stay. best wishes Elizabeth Ruhmer | ||

| The staff were unhelpful and on the whole the hostel was dirty. The beds were most uncomfortable and too many beds were crammed into one room. I would not reccomend this hostel to anyone else. Very disappointed having had a good experience with other HI hostels. | ||

| Encourage the food concession to prepare a more interesting and varied menu. Also a few cooking lessons for the people working there wouldn't hurt. The good thing was that the food wasn't expensive; the not so good thing was the food was indifferently prepared. | ||

| Recommended for anyone traveling to San Francisco. Great location, with public transportation easily accessible--although lots of interesting places and restaurants are definitely within walking distance. | ||

| As annual supporters of the Northern California AYH youth hostels were are very happy to see the something is being done about the energy inefficiency of the windows at the Fishermans wharf hostel. The experience other than the dankness from the energy leaks around the windows was the only thing that detracted from our stay. Excellent Job as always. Ed and Mary Hackie | ||

| I love hihostels so I lived here, and I strongly can say it was good decision. It's near the sea, near the mart, has comfortable lounge. In shower room, there are some left stuff that previous people did so it was so convenient. | ||
