The Redwood Hostel is located within majestic Redwood National and State Parks, a World Heritage Site of extraordinary beauty. A turn of the century pioneer homestead, the hostel easily accommodates 28 guests and has plentiful, informative displays about the area and its original Native American inhabitants. Staff are knowledgeable about local flora and fauna and the best hiking trails among the Coastal Redwoods, the tallest trees on earth. Watch for whales from the hostel's spacious decks, or enjoy a driftwood fire on the beach right across the street.

The hostel has a large kitchen, well stocked with everything you need for cooking--pots, pans, plates, stoves, toasters, fridges, microwave, coffee maker--even spices. We do sell a few items in our office (such as mac n' cheese, pasta, soup), but for hostellers who wish to take advantage of the kitchen, we encourage you to stop well in advance of reaching us to pick up groceries, as there are not many nearby markets. Our dining room seats 20 and has a great view of the ocean. The hostel living room offers 5 comfy couches and a bookshelf stocked with informative texts on the local area. We also have games, puzzles, and toys for the kids.

Our bedrooms include 4 dorm rooms and 2 private rooms, though please note private rooms currently can not be booked online. Please call or email if you are seeking a private room. Also, contact us before booking if you are bringing small children of the opposite gender, as our rooms are generally single-gender. Finally, please note that we do not make all of our beds available online. If the website indicates limited or no availability on your chosen date(s), it is still possible that we have space, but you would need to contact us directly.

Directions

Bus:FROM SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA AND THE SOUTH: Greyhound or Amtrak bus service to Arcata, approx 60 miles south of hostel. For Greyhound, check greyhound.com or call 1-800-231-2222 for schedules and rates. For Amtrak, check amtrak.com or call 1-800-USA-RAIL for schedules and rates (take the train to Martinez and then transfer to an Arcata-bound bus). From Arcata, the Redwood Coast Transit provides service to the hostel twice daily Mon-Sat. The most recent schedule we have indicates the bus leaves Arcata at 10:10am and 5:15pm, arriving here about 90 minutes later. You must inform the driver you wish to be dropped at Wilson Creek Road, as it is not a regular stop. For up-to-date schedules and rates, call (707) 464-6400 or visit redwoodcoasttransit.org. FROM PORTLAND, SEATTLE AND THE NORTH: The nearest Greyhound station to the north is in Grants Pass, Oregon, approximately 100 miles northeast of the hostel. For schedules and rates, call (800) 231-2222 or visit greyhound.com. From the Grants Pass station, the South West Point shuttle provides daily service between Grants Pass and Crescent City. (The same shuttle also stops at both the Klamath Falls Amtrak station and the Medford Greyhound station.) For up-to-date schedules and rates, call (888) 900-2609 or visit southwest-point.com. From Crescent City, Redwood Coast Transit provides service to the hostel several times a day. Take Route 10 or Route 20 from outside the Cultural Center (1001 Front Street). You'll need to tell the driver that you want to be dropped off at Wilson Creek Road, as it is not a regular stop. For up-to-date schedules and rates, call (707) 464-6400 or visit redwoodcoasttransit.org. Please Note: If you take the South West Point shuttle from Grants Pass to Crescent City, the bus arrives after the last Redwood Coast Transit bus has gone to the hostel. You would need to stay in Crescent City for the night and take the bus the next morning, or hire a taxi for the final 13 miles to the hostel (about $20).
Parking:On-site, secure parking at no charge a few steps from the hostel.
Location:12 miles south of Crescent City and 6 miles north of Klamath off California Hwy. 101 at Wilson Creek Road. We are a 6-7 hour drive north of San Francisco, and 6 hours southeast of Portland.
