Winters at HI-Rampart Creek Wilderness Hostel are a magical time filled with the jingling of caribiners and ice screws and stories of victory and defeat at the hands of the frozen foe. With more “beta” than any book, Rampart Creek is the places to go and find out what ice climbs are putting fear into the climbers this season or just where the ice is good to throw your axes around. The reason for all this ice talk at the hostel? Rampart Creek has over 150 ice climbs within 30 minutes drive. This concentration of ice is unparalleled in Canada and quite possibly the world. Climbs range from a few for the timid or beginner up to those for extreme (or insane) climbers, with new mixed routes popping up each year. So if you want to get off in your harness, get on up to Rampart and check out what the locals have been trying to hide for years!

Due to the wilderness location, accessibility for the physically disabled is challenging (call for further details) Credit Card needed when making reservations. Due to lack of direct/reliable communication with the Wildereness Hostels the Central Reservation Office is not able to make same day arrival reservations - walk in basis only. 48 HOURS individual cancellation - at all wilderness hostels. Book ahead to avoid any disapointment, as these smaller hostels are very popular both winter and summer.

Not into ice climbing? Well, ice climbers go to bed early and tend to leave before most sane people are up. This leaves plenty of time to relax at the hostel, enjoy the sauna and check out some skiing or snowshoeing in the area.

no issues. Although it was a short stay, I plan on returning.

My stay sucked. Infact I never got to stay at all. I was excited to see that there was vacentcy for Dec.31, as it was Dec.30. I booked online and paid my deposit and assured my five friends that our room was booked for the next night. I woke up the next morning to find out it was a mistake and there was no room for us, so I ended up hosting my five friends in a wall tent. It turned out to be a blast and I am thankful for that, but no thanks to HI Rampart creek. Oh and to my knowledge I never got my deposite back, I'll let you deal with that if your want to prove your buisiness is remotely credible. Thanks, Matt Robinson

Hostel response:
Hello Matt, thanks for taking the time to comment. Our Central Reservations manager looked into this issue and identified that we had some of the close-out options incorrectly set. This has been remedied and we hope that it's the end of the issue for you and other visitors. I appreciate you letting us know of the problem. Please contact me at the hostel, 403-762-4123, to arrange refund of your deposit. Ken Campbell General Manager

Rampart Creek describes itself honestly. We had a really good time and the hostel manager was friendly. As it said there are no showers/places suited to washing your face etc so we braved the creek! Freezing but memorable!

The washrooms were the worst I stayed in, and the kitchen was dirty with the layout generally unworkable for the number of people there. MacKenzie was great. I liked the separate sitting room and the beds were generally comfortable in the warm rooms

Hostel response:
Thank you for taking the time to comment. We recognize the washrooms at Rampart are challenging and have added replacing these outhouses to our capital plans. While the kitchen is tight when the hostel is busy, the only way to improve upon the space it to remove the wall between the kitchen and sitting room, which you mentioned enjoying - so we've opted to compromise in this area, as adding buildings in this protected National Park isn't really an option. Hopefully, the scenic vistas, local hiking trails and other visitors made up for the drawbacks of the property; we'll keep working on improvements as we have the funding and approval to do so!
