We are centrally located in Portland's historic and vibrant Northwest/Nob Hill district with cafés, shops, brew pubs, theatres, galleries, and nightlife. You can walk to downtown, Amtrak/Greyhound, Washington Park (Rose Garden, Japanese Garden), Powell's City of Books, Saturday Market (& Sundays too), farmers' markets, museums, the Pearl arts district, Chinatown and more. The Mission Brew Pub Theatre ($3 movies) is only one block away. Nearby Forest Park, the country's largest urban wilderness, offers great hiking and biking. If you are tired of walking, catch the streetcar or MAX in Portland's free rail zone. The airport MAX train stops 5 short blocks away from the hostel (get off at Jeld-Wen Park stop, formerly PGE Park stop).

Our hostel is housed in two historic buildings. Our main building, the Elliston, built in 1889, is a historic landmark and on the national register for historic places. The hostel features dorms and private rooms, outdoor gardens and courtyard with BBQ, kitchen and dining room, coffee bar, common areas, laundry facilities, Internet kiosk, free local phone calls, free wireless internet for laptops, free in-room lockers, free luggage storage, free parking lot and free on-street parking, and free artisan breads. Helpful and friendly staff offer great information on things to see and do, and we provide free maps. Our information boards are updated every week. … We have regularly scheduled free events (movie nights, etc.) and offer free walking tours and pub crawls to give you a taste of Portland, “America's most European city”. Van tours can be booked to Mount St. Helens Volcano, Columbia River Gorge Waterfalls, and the Oregon Coast. During the summer months, free weekly summer music concerts are offered in neighboring parks. Notes on rates: rates quoted on this website are Hostelling International member rates. The cheapest I have ever been living in US. The staffs are helpful and I.formative. It's located in Pearl district which is a very interesting neibourhood and very walk friendly. The building is old-fasioned with standing bath-tub. The facilities ( e.g., kitchen and common activity room) are simple but can cover most of my needs. The heating is the dorms are not quite warm during my stay inDecember, but they can provide extra blanket upon request. A very comfortable to stay in. Portland.

A wonderful 'old' hostel in a a lovely city. The hostel is somewhat outside the centre, but since Portland is relative small, you can easily walk to the centre (10 min max). The only 'negative' point of this hostel is that the checkin closes at 12 PM (although they can wait for you when you call them, but you have to pay 10 dollars extra) and it is somewhat difficult to reach it by public transport.

cleanliness and comfort of the place were really really bad. (without noticing People coming into the room at 2AM)
