HI-Point Reyes is two miles from the ocean in a secluded valley on Point Reyes National Seashore, known for its abundant flora and fauna, including bobcats, fox, deer and elk, harbor seals, and sea lions. The varied habitat, unique coastal climate, and location draw a rich and diverse array of breeding and migrating birds.

Point Reyes National Seashore juts far out into the path of migrating gray whales, and Point Reyes Lighthouse, 25 miles from the hostel, is the best place in the Bay Area for whale watching January-April. Bear Valley Visitor Center, eight miles away, has informative displays on the area's geological, natural, and native history. Hiking trails leave from the hostel grounds.

Point Reyes hostel offers the following services and amenities to their guests:

* Free on-site parking
* Baggage and bicycle storage
* Secure lockers
* Interpretive displays and information about the surrounding area.
* Wheelchair accessibility
* Group meeting space and/or accommodations available.

Point Reyes hostel has a self-service kitchen and dining room where guests can prepare their own meals. The kitchen is fully equipped with stoves, ovens, microwave, coffee maker, and ample refrigerator/freezer space. Pots and pans, dishes, and utensils are also provided.

When the weather is nice, guests can also take advantage of the outdoor patio with picnic tables and barbecue.

Accommodations are in shared, gender-specific or co-ed dorm rooms, each sleeping 8-10 people. In addition, there is one private room available which accommodates up to 5 people in one double bed and three twin/bunk beds.

Bathrooms are shared and gender-specific.

Clean place in a nice location with many common areas. But one shower for a dorm of 8 isn't very much. But the worst is that they do not offer free WiFi... bit old-fashioned......

A spectacular location, spotless hostel and nice staff. The only complaint I have is nothing they can fix - the old floors really carried sound and someone was up walking around at 4am and it woke me up repeatedly (despite earplugs)

During our travels, we had driven early the site just to check that we knew where we were going. Just so happened one of us needed to use a rest room facility while we were there. We were greeted by a staff member who refused to let us use the bathroom and told us to come back at check in. Had to drive quite a ways to find a rest room. Given how remote a location, seemed completely unreasonable to simply allow us the use the facilities. Was so turned off by the experience, we actually decided to skip staying at the hostel all together and forfeited our deposit.

Hostel response:
Hello Tracey, I regret that you arrived at the hostel during our closed hours and were not able to use our facilities. At this time, the hostel must close to the public from 10am to 4:30pm every day, because we do not have staff on duty during these hours. We are a small hostel that has only one staff on per day during the morning and evening hours only. Staff that might be around the hostel, are not to let anyone in the buildings during our closed hours. We realize that we are in remote location, and offer the Limantour Beach public restrooms to people coming to the hostel during our closed hours as as alternative. I apologize if this was not explained to you. We try to make this as clear as possible. When reservations are made, our hours of operation are stated and then stated again in our confirmation emails.
