HI Pembroke Hostel is a clean, comfortable facility, adjacent to the University of North Carolina. HI-Pembroke, is convenient to campus activities, bowling, tennis courts, and the UNCP Native American Museum and Resource Center. Pembroke, home of the Lumbee tribe, features the outdoor drama Strike the Wind July-August. The Pembroke area celebrates festivals of cultural diversity including powwows, Highland Games, street fairs, and parades. Performing arts centers, parks, planetarium, golf courses, and outlet centers offer educational and recreational opportunities. The Lumber River, a natural and scenic blackwater river, is a favorite for canoeists, naturalists, and fishermen. Day trips can be made to North Carolina beaches, Raleigh, Wilmington, and Myrtle Beach. (estimated 2 hour drive).
