Welcome to Hostelling International - South Algonquin, an established hostel run by travellers, for travellers. Relax and enjoy your stay in the comfort of our unique century-old frontier hotel. Leave the tourist rush behind and take a step back into Algonquin's history.
Located in the heart of the Algonquin Highlands, surrounded by lakes, forest and unspoiled scenery on the edge of Algonquin Park, logging and hunting remain the backbone of the local economy with tourism on the rise. But don't expect to see hordes of camera-toting sightseers or lines of buses and campervans. Our tiny village of Maynooth (population 200) is still very much 'off the beaten path'!
For our guests travelling without vehicles. We are conveniently located on a Greyhound bus route, and once you have arrived we offer all sorts of Algonquin daytrips and shuttles with options to hike, bike , horseback ride, kayak and canoe, or we can set you up for an overnight canoe trip or camping adventure. We guarantee good equipment and the best rental rates!
***NOTE!!!! there will be no tours available between January 14 and March 11, 2009. If you are travelling by bus please contact our hostel directly for activities information..
In the evening unwind and mingle over some food or drinks in our licensed pub or make use of our guest kitchen, pool table, satellite TV, laundry, internet or large book exchange.
Don't be shy about asking for advice on Algonquin or for travel tips in general. We love to talk travel! Check us out online...our website is AlgonquinBackpacker.com.
See you soon....your host, Tom

| We had an awesome stay, but our bed was really bad! We had a fullsize bed and we were roling to the center all the time, it was also squeaking when you moved only a little. | ||

| It was very quietFacilities might get crowded when busy. Looks run down but is very clean and comfortable and staff have very good local knowledge. Hostellers appreciate that a lot and it should be one of your questions! | ||
