The road to the hostel was in deperate need of plowing. There was a small snow fall during our stay, but the road to the hostel and parking lot especially were not plowed. It appeared the parking lot hadn't been plowed for a long time. Several cars were getting stuck on the road as well as in the parking lot, and had to abandon their cars and walk to the hostel. This was dangerous as cars were scattered all over the road, and children were forced to walk up the road in the dark.

The location is a bit remote, otherwise its quite a comfortable place to stay in, if you don't mind sleeping in the dorm with lots of ppl.

The hostel definitely needs to have a computer with internet because it's very annoying for people to go to town to use the inernet because they don't have their own laptop. Other negative point: the staff was really loud in the kitchen, at 3 o clock in the night i once woke up and they were still up and having lots of fun!!! You could hear them loud and clear in the dorm where i was sleeping with the other 27 people...

It was my first time hostelling and it was really enjoyable! The friendly staff greeted me and were very helpful. It was pretty easy to strike up a conversation with other hostellers; looking forward to doing this again!

Large bunk room smelled like a locker room. Kitchen, dining room were good. Showers were sometimes cold, sometimes hot. Staff was hellpful.

There was NO HOT WATER! And no COLD SHOWER due to water being shut off in men's room. I have stayed @ JASPER HI several years in succession. I may be wrong but I think NO HOT WATER was a problem 2 or 3 years ago. We could shower at the AQUATIC CENTRE but it was very very crowded and was a very poor substitute. In my case and probably only in my case, the ACQUATIC CENTRE refused my shower chit. I have driven there instead of riding the HOSTEL bus. I was told of a 19:30 hrs bus but apparently was not at exactly the right spot to catch it SO I MISSED HAVING A SHOWER. Not the end of the world but a bit sticky as I walked up to Whistler Mt Lift Station the morning before check-in. ALSO, this year I had a private room because last year in the DORM, lap tops use and TEXTING continued through out the night, all night long, contineously. I propose you have the upstairs area available for texting and lap top use but forbid it in the dorm. The dorm should be only for sleeping, I feel.

Hostel response:
Thanks for the comments. I am sorry that you had a reservation at HI-Jasper during the period when our hot water tank was broken. It was a difficult situation for everyone staying, living and working up at the hostel.

Our hot water tank is now repaired and guests do not need to use the aquatic centre in town anymore. We do realize that this was not the most ideal situation but again, we thank everyone for their understanding during those difficult times.

I'm not really sure if there is a solution to people texting while in the dormitory. I would think that this may be an issue at every hostel around the world...not just at HI-Jasper. Either way, we do appreciate you bringing it to our attention. Hope the rest of your travels are going well.

The slow, slow internet is absolutely terrible. There's a lack of available toilets to serve such a large number of people. Limited and costly transportation to and from the hostel is also a major factor (especially early evenings!).

Booked private room online using HI website, deposit paid, arrived to find booking not made despite several emails to confirm with booking as wife pregnant. A year later and several more emails of complaint, deposit has still not been refunded! Jasper hostel probably ok, but the booking centre is run by incompetent, dishonest staff. Avoid. FYI, you'd be better staying in a motel in Jasper town as it's not that much more expensive and at least you can walk into the shops and bars.
