Girdwood is a great place for your outdoor Alaskan adventure! This former mining town offers hiking, paragliding, fishing, whitewater rafting, historic mining tours, ice climbing, a rainforest canopy zipline, and miles of paved walking and biking paths. Bicycle and ski rentals available nearby. Alaska's best ski resort, Mount Alyeska, is 3 miles from the hostel. Put your skis on the local shuttle and ride to the mountain for $1.

From HI-Girdwood, pay just $1 to ride the local shuttle around Girdwood, to the ski resort, hiking trails, bars and restaurants. Local restaurants serve great cinnamon rolls, pizza, all-you-can-eat soup, and beer on tap from local Alaskan breweries.

HI-Girdwood is a new hostel (opened July 2009) designed in an eco-friendly fashion utilizing water-efficient showers and toilets as well as energy efficient heating and lighting.

Separate male and female dorm rooms. One quad room with four bunks available for up to four friends traveling together. Private rooms with a double bed and upper bunk accommodate up to three people. The colorful rooms are uniquely and cheerfully painted by a local artist.

Opening times (daily/weekly):	The hostel is open to registered guests 24 hrs/day. Summer front desk hours 5-10pm May through September. Winter front desk hours 4-9pm October through April.

Directions

Bus:	Seward Bus Lines, Alaska Transportation Group, and Stage Line offer bus service from Anchorage and other nearby cities to Girdwood. Buses conveniently stop at Tesoro Station Mall, a short walk 5 blocks to the hostel.
Location:	On Seward Highway at mile marker 90 look for the Tesoro gas station. Go through the gas station parking lot, and turn right on Gold Ave. Our beautiful red building is located at 365 Gold Ave in Old Girdwood just before the river.
Rail:	The hostel is a short walk from the train station. Alaska Railroad offers daily service to Girdwood from Anchorage, Seward, Whittier or Portage until September 15, 2009. Bring your bike along on the train for an additional $20. 1-800-544-0552
