A great urban hostel located where the fun is in Edmonton's historic Old Strathcona neighbourhood. We are just off Whyte Avenue, the coolest strip for shopping, pubbing and clubbing, near the University of Alberta and across the river from the downtown core. Everything you need is within walking distance with the infamous West Edmonton Mall a quick bus ride away.

Directions

Bus:	Walk east to 101 Street, catch the #9 Southgate or the #7 Belgravia bus southbound. Get off at 82 Avenue and 109 Street. Hostel is 2 blocks east and 1 block south.
Parking:	Available at hostel. Register your vehicle at reception.
Location:	10647-81 Avenue
Rail:	Walk south for 4 blocks to Kingsway Avenue and take #12 Kinsway bus to Kingsway Mall. Take #9 Southgate bus. Get off at 82 Avenue and 109 Street. Hostel is 2 blocks east and 1 block south.
Airport:	Take the Sky Shuttle. Specify our hostel and the driver will drop you off at the hostel front door. (about $18/one-way or $30/return). Or: Take an ETS bus to Century Park Transit Centre; then take the LRT to the U. of A. stop; then take the #7 bus, which will drop you off on the corner of Whyte Ave. and 107 St.; then walk one block south, we're on the corner of 81 Ave and 107 St. Fare: $5 one way; no transfer to regular ETS service.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and the common room was nice and big but for some reason the windows were ALWAYS open and it got pretty cold at night. We did have rainy weather last week, but if the window in your room or in a common area or hallway is open, please feel free to close it. Overall I enjoyed my stay here. There was lots of useful information about Edmonton available in the common area. Thankfully, the cleaniness of the kitchen improved over the four days I was there- on the first day I didn't want to use it. Even though it improved, I would still hope that a washing up sponge and more clean teatowels are provided in the future. Hostel response: Hi Sonia, Thanks for your comments. I'm sorry the kitchen cleanliness didn't meet your satisfaction the first day, but I'm glad you found it improved. Our housekeepers clean the kitchen at least twice during the day and our night cleaner cleans it at the end of the night when we close it. I've spoken to our HKs to remind them to make sure they're putting out enough towels and cloths for dishes. Greg, Manager

The room temperature was way too hot (over 25 degrees celcius). Even though its winter, the temperature should be around 20 degree celcius.

This is a great hostel, but not what it used to be. Either that, or I'm getting too old to stay at a hostel. Anyway, it's still great value and a great place overall. Maybe I was just turned off by the dismal atmosphere in Edmonton overall.

Fairly central, staff were helpful, and provided the good security (lockers, keycard access) that I have come to expect from HI Hostels.

Location is good. Both manager and staff there are very kind, willing to help thier customers. Although my shoes and bicycle timer was stolen by someone when I staying there. It was a good experience staying HI Edmonton. Hostel response: Thanks for your comments. I'm pleased to hear you had a good experience despite losing a couple items.
