*** Under new management ***
Bethel is located in the western part of Maine, about 70 miles from the coast. The area is one of rugged mountains, remote lakes, swift streams and rivers, and intriguing forests. The White Mountain National Forest is a mere step away, the Appalachian Trail is ten miles from our door, and the Androscoggin River within spitting distance. The area is perfect for outdoor adventures. Bicycling, either on road or by more rugged mountain bikes . Hiking in the area is superb. Again, hikes can be tailored to the skill level and needs of the party - from easy to blisteringly tough! Canoeing is easily accessible, either on some of the local lakes, or the Androscoggin River. In either case, the waters are perfect for families, and folk with little (or even no) experience. Fishing is fabulous all summer in the area. Small Mouth Bass and Trout are the most commonly fished species, either from shore, or a boat. For those with less active tastes, or to fill in summer evenings, the BIG adventure center has Laser Tag, indoor climbing, mini golf and a water slide. The hostel is perfect for groups who want to combine hostelling with outdoor adventuring. We will work with you to design the perfect vacation or stay.

| There has been some kind of clerical error...I never stayed at any hostel. I cancelled all reservations that had been made at least a day beforehand. | ||

| Hostel is kind of in the middle of nowhere, so you need a car, but other than that the stay was wonderful. Very friendly family that runs the place, and they helped me with everything I needed. | ||

| We arrived around 11 PM and the innkeeper set us up in an upper-level room. There were people who were laughing and chatting noisily, and every time I was about to fall asleep, they woke me up, even after midnight. But I couldn't figure out where the noise was coming from. I actually got dressed to circle the hostel attempting to find the people who were keeping us up, and when the innkeeper saw me do this, they finally magically shut up. But it caused me to not get enough sleep to get up early to go skiing.
The next day the innkeeper told me he was allowing the noisy people in the upstairs apartment to throw a party and warned me not to be around for that, because he couldn't guarantee that they would be quiet enough to sleep. So we packed up and left. This is skiing season. What kind of an innkeeper allows his guests to party when people are getting up early to hit the slopes? | ||
