I stayed in the new building, with 4 people sharing a room with two double deckers. To my surprise, the cleanliness design is almost like a hotel, except that the showers are outside. Buses to town are not very frequent(40 minutes), so be sure not to miss it!

I don't think that Hosteling International should take advantage of the higher rates charged in Banff to not give the services I find in many other Canadian Hostels ie: breakfast. Making our own breakfast even if it is just pancakes or toast is a great way to start the day... eating with other Hostelers.

Hostel response:
Hello, thanks for taking the time to review our hostel. We do our best to provide good value at our hostel for the price, which is very similar to the other hostels in town. Our restaurant does have various options, but the opportunity to make your own breakfast is also there, in either of our fully-equipped guest kitchens with our other guests.

The free bus pass was fantastic! I was in the new building and it was very quite. I am not sure what it is like at other times, but if you are looking to party, you will not find it here.

Building was dirty. Showers and sink in room on second day were draining very slowly and appeared to be clogged. Kitchen floor needed to be mopped. Overall the building needed a serious cleaning. Mattress was very lumpy and horribly uncomfortable. This Hostel has declined since I was last there a few years ago. I also wish there was a small freezer for ice packs/water bottles.

Hostel response:
Thank you for taking the time to leave your thoughts on your stay. I have forwarded your concerns regarding cleanliness to our housekeeping supervisor. We hope you choose to stay with us again so we can improve upon your most recent impression. Kind Regards, Shaun Freeman - Assistant General Manager.

The location is enhanced by the free bus pass, which is effective and easy to use. The hostel has plenty of space, superb bedrooms and a well appointed shared kitchen.

i really enjoyed staying in Banff, its a beautiful place and the staff was really friendly and welcoming. I do think my room booking got mixed up, but i didn't mind, as it was a really nice room with very nice people.

Compared with the other HI hostels we stayed in this one wasn't great despite being in the Rockies. It just wasn't very alpine and the room was cramped. The bedding didn't feel really fresh and clean.
