HI-Baltimore hostel is part of the long and rich history Baltimore City has to offer. The hostel is located in an 1857 mansion across the street from America's First Cathedral – the Baltimore Basilica. We are proud to announce that the hostel now offers 49 beds with the addition of our newly completed 3 bed dorm and double bed private room located on our quiet and cozy lower floor. Our larger dormitory style rooms (12, 8, and 4 bed dorms) have a bathroom located in the room with the smaller dorm and private sharing a hall bath. We provide the sheets, towels, and blankets. Small lockers are available for use (bring your own padlock). Free pancake breakfast is available daily at the hostel. Plus Free WiFi. We have a large quiet common room, dining room, full use kitchen, back deck and lower patio, laundry facilities, and a TV room with cable television and movies.
DEATH FEST RESERVATIONS - If you want to make a reservation for the Death Fest taking place May 28 - 30 please CALL the hostel. We have beds set aside for this festival. Even if it says we are sold out online we may still have beds availabe in the hostel.

Every Morning from 8:15am to 10:30am – FREE make your own pancake breakfast. We provide the batter, chocolate chips, butter, and syrup - you do the rest!
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday @ 8pm, Movie Time! - Enjoy a new release with other hostellers on our brand new 42" LCD TV or projected on the big screen. Free popcorn.
Thursday Nights @ 7:30pm - Join other hostellers for an all you can eat pasta dinner and salad. Share travel tales, make new friends, or simply enjoy some good food. We request a $3 donation.
Weekly Events - Be sure to check out the weekly events available only to hostel guests. The events are listed throughout the hostel and are a great way to meet people and disocover the city. See below for some upcoming events.
Every Wednesday @ 9pm, Pub Crawl! - Join other hostellers for a guided pub crawl tour of one of Baltimore's many neighborhoods. Tours rotate neighborhoods each week. The neighborhoods we visit are Fells Point, Station North Arts District, and Mount Vernon. Bars on the tour include Brewers Art, Midtown Yacht Club, The Windup Space, Club Charlers, the Wharf Rat, Bad Decisions, Max's and many others. Tours sometimes come with free shots at participating bars and free entry to events. Must be 21+ with ID and have money for cab fare. Sign up at the hostel and meet in the Lobby at 8:30pm.
Special Events - Check out this special events happening at the hostel. Movie showings, travel presenations, and other events are FREE to hostel guests.
Sunday January 31st - Last Sunday, Last Rites @ 7pm Join us for a night of local poetry, fiction, and music. Presented by the Outside Writers Collective, this night brings some of the best talent from the area for your listening pleasure. This event is Free!
Saturday February 6th - The Poetry of John Keats Noon - 2pm Learn about the poetry of John Keats with other poetry lovers. Light refreshments provided. Free and open to the public. Noon to 2pm.
Tuesday Februray 16th - Mardi Gras Celebration @7pm Celebrate Mardi Gras with some home cooked New Orleans Gumbo followed by a movie about the history of Mardi Gras. Starts at 7pm and is Free.
Saturday February 27th - Poets and Lyres 6pm to 9:30pm Midway Fair presents Poets and Lyres:
'We sing along to them, read the liner notes to get them right, and can even study them in college classes. But often we don't understand where they come from.
Lyricists have provided some of the best poetry of the past century, and they draw their inspiration from fascinating and diverse sources. Poets and Lyres presents four of Baltimore's best songwriters explaining the craft and sources behind some of their lyrics in four unique and innovative ways.'

| Bus: | From the Bus Station To get to the Hostel from the Downtown Bus Station: From the Greyhound bus station take the #27 bus to the stop near Saratoga Street. Walk east on Saratoga Street (the numbers will be going down) for three blocks. Turn left onto Liberty Street and walk one block. Turn right onto Mulberry Street. The hostel is the second door on your right, 17 West Mulberry Street. We do not recommend walking from the downtown bus station. The bus station was recently moved slightly out of the city and is in an industrial area. The walk is easy enough, however you will be walking through areas that have a lot of old industrial buildings and not a lot of people on the street. A taxi from Greyhound will cost $8.00 to $12.00 depending upon traffic. To get to the Hostel from the Travel Plaza: Take the #20 bus towards downtown. Get off at the intersection of Fayette and Charles Streets. Walk north (with the flow of traffic) on Charles Street for 3 blocks. Turn left at Mulberry Street. The hostel is located near the intersection of Cathedral and Mulberry Streets on your left hand side. A bus ride from the Travel Plaza will take roughly 40 minutes. Chinatown Bus If you are traveling between Baltimore City and New York City, the following bus company will drop you off and pick you up just a few blocks from the hostel - http://www.aabus.com/index.html. They are much cheaper than Greyhound or any other service. To get from their drop off point - 104 North Liberty, walk North on Liberty Street for three blocks (the numbers will be going up). Turn right onto Mulberry Street. The hostel is the second door on your right, 17 West Mulberry Street. |
| Metro: | Monday through Friday – 5am to Midnight Saturday, Sunday, Holidays – 6am to Midnight $1.60 one way $3.50 all day unlimited pass (good for all mass transit) Closest Metro stop is Lexington Market located ½ a mile, or .8 kilometers, from the Baltimore Hostel. Get off at Lexington Market and walk North on Howard Street for two blocks. Make a Right onto Mulberry Street and walk for two blocks. The Baltimore Hostel will be on the right, 2nd building in from Cathedral Street. |
| Parking: | Coming from the South (Washington DC) you want to take 95 North to Exit 53 - 395 North to Downtown/Martin Luther King Blvd. Stay to the left towards 'Downtown'. Once you exited to the left towards 'Downtown' move to your right and go with the flow of traffic to the right towards the Inner Harbor. Make your first left onto Charles Street. Follow Charles street for 10 blocks and make a left onto Franklin Street. Go one block and make your first left onto Cathedral Street. Go one block and make your first left onto Mulberry Street. The hostel is the 2nd door in from Cathedral Street, 17 West Mulberry Street. An alternative route is to take 295 (Baltimore Washington Parkway). On 295 you would continue to downtown Baltimore City and make a right onto Pratt Street. From Pratt Street you would make a left onto Charles Street and continue from the directions above. Coming from the North (Philadelphia, NYC) take 95 South to exit 53 -395 North to Downtown/Martin Luther King Blvd. Stay to the left towards 'Downtown'. Once you exited to the left towards 'Downtown' move to your right and go with the flow of traffic to the right towards the Inner Harbor. Make your first left onto Charles Street. Follow Charles street for 10 blocks and make a left onto Franklin Street. Go one block and make your first left onto Cathedral Street. Go one block and make your first left onto Mulberry Street. The hostel is the 2nd door in from Cathedral Street, 17 West Mulberry Street. Coming from the North (I83). Stay on 83 South towards Baltimore City. Take Exit 5 for Maryland Avenue (the exit is a sharp turn to the right and then a stop light). Turn left off of the exit at the stop light onto Maryland Avenue. Continue through the city on Maryland Avenue for 1 mile. You will go down a hill (passing Walters Art Museum on your left) and then up a steep hill. Cross over Franklin Street and make your next left onto Mulberry Street. The hostel is the 2nd door in from Cathedral Street (Maryland Ave. turns into Cathedral Street), 17 W Mulberry Street. Coming from the West (Pittsburgh, Ohio) take 70 East to 695 South towards "Essex". Follow 695 to 95 North. Get onto 95 North and follow the directions given when coming from the South. Parking We have limited parking available behind the hostel for $8 a night. You may be asked to leave your keys at the front desk in case we need to move vehicles around. Street parking is available at $1 an hour, though during rush hour times there is no parking on the streets. If parking your car on the street be aware of the signs. Towing is enforced in the downtown area and it brings a steep fine of $260. A number of garages are available in the area and they range from $8 to $20 a day (you pay that every time you come and go). You should reserve parking if you want to use parking behind the Hostel. |
| Rail: | -By Train From Penn Station take the #3 bus down Saint Paul Street. When exiting the train station turn towards your left and walk to the entrance of the drive. There is a bus stop on the corner of the drive and Saint Paul Street. The #3 bus will drop you off directly across from the hostel on the corner of Mulberry and Cathedral Streets. The bus is $1.60 one way or $3.50 for an all day pass. A bus ride from the train station will take roughly 20 minutes. If you are up for a walk Penn Station is 12 blocks, or one mile (1.6km) from the Hostel. Walk south on Charles Street (against the flow of traffic). Once you past the Washington Monument you go two more blocks and turn right into Mulberry Street. The hostel is on your left - 17 West Mulberry Street. The walk down Charles Street is a nice walk and you will get to see a number of shops and restaurants that you may way to visit later. |

Make your first right onto Saratoga Street. Walk three blocks (1/2 mile) and turn left onto Liberty Street. Walk one block and make a right onto Mulberry Street. The hostel is the second door on your right, 17 West Mulberry Street. To take a taxi from the airport it will be an average of $23.00 The BWI Super Shuttle offers travel to Downtown from 4am to Midnight. It is $20 the first person and $5 each additional person. They will drop you off at the hostel. Tell them you are going to the Baltimore Hostel at 17 West Mulberry Street. Dulles International: There is no quick and inexpensive direct route to Baltimore City from Dulles International Airport. If you want a direct service you would need to use a taxi or shuttle service. A taxi or shuttle service would range from $30 to $60. For a less expensive alternative you can take the metro bus to the DC metro and then take the DC metro to Union Station. From there you can take the MARC Train (Monday through Friday ONLY) to Baltimore City and get off at Penn Station. The MARC train is $7 one way. On days when the MARC train is not running you can take the Metro bus to the DC metro and then take the DC metro to the Greenbelt Station. From there you would need to take the Metro Bus from the Greenbelt Station to BWI Airport. From the BWI Airport you can take the Light Rail into Baltimore City. Following directions for Light Rail from there. |
