Rjukan has been called the "cradle of tourism in Norway". Tourist came to the area to see the nature already as early as the 18th century. Rjukan is also famous for the brave feats of the heavy water saboteurs, the Norwegian Industrial Workers Museum at Vemork, The Krosso-cable car. Here you will also find marked walking trails to f.eks Mt Gausta with 1883 m.o.s. The youth hostel is situated at 940 meters with a grand view over lake Kvitåvatn and Mt Gausta.

| Location: | The hostel is situated outside Rjukan. Take the exit from RV 37 at Dale to Gaustatoppen and Tuddal, before Rjukan.Follow this road 10 km. At Svineroi follow sign to Gaustablikk and Kvitåvatn. Do not drive into Rjukan City Center. |

| A good starting point for reaching Gaustatoppen. We had planned a trip to the top, but unfortunately the weather was very bad, heavy rain and thick fog. We did not see the beautiful views this time, but we come back in the fall. | ||
