This recently refurbished 5 star hostel offers comfortable and modern accommodation. YHA Franz Josef is the perfect hostel to take in the sights of the magnificent Fox and Franz Josef glaciers. Accommodation comprises shared, double, twin (some with ensuite bathrooms) and family rooms. Facilities include a spacious fully equipped kitchen, TV lounge with Sky TV and free dvd's, open plan lounge/dining room with open fire, bike storage, drying room, pool table and sauna.
Comfortable and modern with a warm atmosphere and a rain forest in the back yard. Located in Franz Josef, close to the glacier.

| the room quite small but we did not surprise as it is YHA!! but the one that we can not accept when we stay in second floor with like 10 rooms they got only one shower room for unisex and one toilet for male and one for female. Shower room also not busy even they told us only 4 room share bath the rest ensuit. Moreover the design of shower make the room wetty and dirty compare with other YHA in NZ I found this not worth for price ( they also higher price than othe YHA) I say big pantry room but that not what we use | ||

| We can only say we were very disappointed when we turned up to book in to find out we did not have a room because one of the staff members had booked us in for other dates and not the ones that we were confirmed for; it was also pouring down with rain. After about an hour of mucking around the girl on the desk finally got us a room at another backpacker establishment. This was a very huge inconvenience especially seeing we still had to pay the YHA for our room and they then paid for the other hostel that was a lower price. Overall the YHA came out in front and we were left with a very bad experience. I could not recommend YHA Franz Josef to other people due to this error. | ||
