The perfect base for exploring our wonderful city; YHA Dunedin is charming, spacious, comfortable and full of character. The roof-top garden offers city and sea-scapes, stargazing and sunrises. After an active day, relax by the fire, watch a video or read in the sun-room. YHA Dunedin feels just like home.
YHA Dunedin was built as a hospital early last century by one of Dunedin's foremost architects. Now it's a place where even the ghosts make you feel at home. A roof-top garden offers views from the city to the sea - perfect for stargazing and sunrises.
Stafford Gables is a wonderful place to come home to after a day exploring Dunedin and the Otago Peninsula. Relax by the fire, watch a video, or read in the sunroom. And make sure you have a chat with Missy, the hostel cat!
Dunedin is Edinburgh’s alter-ego. The city and its university are interwoven with cafes, pubs and unique architecture. Visit New Zealand’s only castle, travel on the Taieri Gorge railway, tour the chocolate factory or Speight’s Brewery.
Wildlife around the harbour includes albatross, seals, sea-lions and yellow-eyed penguins. Taiaroa head is the only place in the world where albatross nest on the mainland. All local activities can be booked at the hostel and there are heaps of YHA discounts available.
Show your YHA / Hostelling International membership card when checking in or join YHA on arrival and receive at least a 10% discount off the standard (displayed) rate. Members, ask for your free mobile SIM at the hostel! Memberships can be purchased online or at the hostel. | Staffs are not friendly and not even smiling at visitors. Suggest to put label to open the door signage (pull or push)

| Like with a lot of places, I was kept awake for hours because of automatic door closers slamming shut.
The door lock was presented security risk as it could have been open easily with a knife or credit card.
