Maybe just fixing a few locks on the lockers, often only a few in a dorm room work! Not a good sense of security.

Hostel response:
Many thanks for your comments,

We are sorry to hear that you did not have a good sense of security due to some lockers being broken in your room. The lockers do break occasionally as they get a lot of use. Did you let reception know while you were here as they would have ensured they were fixed as soon as possible. Should you return to Dublin we would be happy to look after you again.

Kind regards,
Pamela.

Very friendly and sociable - had plenty of activities to join such as walking tours of Dublin. A 15 minute walk from the city centre, but not too difficult to find. Only problem was the heating was turned up full blast in the bedroom and with the window only opening very slightly, it was VERY warm at night, making it difficult to get much sleep. Managed to get the heating turned down for second night which was more pleasant. Great value for money though!

Though in Ireland, many of staff are native Spanish speakers, so not much Irish flavor there. Also, same off duty male staff nap in common rooms and took over the TV room on two occassions. THough close to main areas, neighborhood is not so pleasant or clean and backyard of hostel has wire and spikes across the top of wall so prevent wall climbing- this a bit off putting. Most staff pleasant and helpful, breakfast OK and rooms are clean and ready in the morning for new arrivals which is nice.

An option for smaller dorms would be very welcome. Also individual lights for each bed (I had to turn lights off after roommates had forgotten to and gone to sleep), showers that last longer than 20 seconds, maybe controlled heating and security cards that don't mysteriously stop working. Otherwise, most of the staff were helpful and friendly and the place was clean and well equipped.

Hostel response:
many thanks for your comments, We are in the process of improving some of our facilities, should you return to Dublin we would be happy to look after you again were hopefully you could enjoy the improvements. Best regards, Pamela. Dublin International Hostel.

The room my group was staying in was overbooked for the night. There were nine of us sleeping and every single person in the room was rudely woken at 5:30 in the morning in order to deal with it. The four new people who came in at that ridiculous time were partially to blame, but the staff at reception were handling the situation neither correctly nor effectively. The new lodgers had asked for a different room after seeing the one they were assigned to was full. They were not granted this until a staff member came all the way up to the room to see for themselves. This wasted effort on his part and everyone's time as we all were exhausted. With 280 beds in the place, this type of situation should have never happened in the first place. Please train the staff to firstly prevent overbooking situations like this, but also how to deal with them correctly if they should occur.

Hostel response:
Thank you for your comments, I am truly sorry that this situation happened. At 5am in the morning we are not always at our sharpest and the mistake of giving the wrong room to a group of people at this hour was indeed not something that happens regularly, I have spoken with the staff involved and hope that this does not happen again. All I can do is apologise for the inconvenience caused and hope that should you return to Dublin that we can redeem ourselves in your eyes. Kindest regards, Safe Travels Misty Smith Manager Dublin International Hostel

Generally good, although looking and feeling worn out. Staff assisted promptly although attitude varied from pleasant to average. Kitchen dirty by mid evening and little fridge space. Bed worn out and uncomfortable, at least it was quiet most nights so I could sleep OK. Room was warm enough. No powerpoint in room, fine in 1989 but with phones and laptops today this is a major drawback. Location OK but it's an indirect walk from town through some ordinary looking areas. In general acceptable for hostel expectations but there are better YHA/HI hostels in other cities and this one has fallen behind.

Great perk to have breakfast at the hostel even if it is basic. Friendly staff and all round a good hostel. Would be nicer to have water running out of the taps a bit longer, you have to hold the tap down constantly. I can understand the need to save water though.

Very friendly & helpful staff, clean & basic women's dorms, lots of security doors but no working lockers in room, blah breakfast.
