Gimli is a big, beautiful house by the main street in the center of Dalvík, nicely situated above the harbour. From there its a short distance to grocery store, atm, cafe and restaurant among other things. Dalvík is a typical fishing village with around 1.500 inhabitants. The village is surrounded by the ocean, deep valleys and the high mountains of the Tröllaskagi peninsula. There are countless possibilities of things to do in Dalvík area; whale watching, museum, horse rental, swimming pool and gym, great hiking routs and areas for outdoor activity, birdwatching in a nature reserve, golf, skiing area and more! In Dalvík area there are great possibilities to watch the Northern lights during vinter time. From Dalvík the ferry Sæfari sails three times a week to Grímsey island which lies on the Arctic Circle. Sæfari ferry also sails two times a week to Hrísey, the Pearl of Eyjafjörður fjord.

Very nice bedroom and kitchen/sitting area. We need a little shelf in the bathrooms to hold toothpaste and other toiletries. At night, when the hostel is really quiet, opening and closing bedroom and toilet doors make too much noise - the door locks should probably be replaced with quieter ones.

this is a fabulous place to stay in dalvik , we stayed in the little cottage , a converted cowshed which is a amazing , cute and comfortable all the mod cons, so cute and a surpise hot tub , where we saw the northern lights, an experiance we shall never forget !! hope to see you again soon. the hosts were so helpful and had all the information we needed, skiing, horse riding, walks and both so friendly, even gave us lifts to were we wanted to go , thanks again for an amazing time

An incredible little place - decorated beautifully and extremely clean. The owner is an awesome guy who really takes pride in the building and owning the hostel. He was extremely friendly and answered all of our questions.

This was a super clean, comfortable, and friendly hostel. The managers, Bjarni and Heida, were very attentive to my questions and helped me with planning things to do while in Dalvik. I was particularly interested in hiking. Hiking opportunities are not abundant in the area but what there are are very beautiful and moderately easy to do if one has mountain trail experience. Also the library in Dalvik is super sweet....free laptop use and internet to customers of the attached coffee shop. Lots of other options for whale watching and a trip to Grimsley Island in the arctic circle. I definitely would go back if I return to Iceland in the future.

We stayed in the cottage, it was nice but i suggest to solve the problem of the missing shower. Kitchen should be more equiped. It's a new hostal, owner is a really good guy, he is still learning, but he's on the right way!
