The Moselle Valley is one of Germany’s finest holiday regions where you’ll find, just like a string of pearls, many romantic towns famous for their wine. Cochem is one of the Moselle’s tourist centres. The fairy-tale Castle Reichsburg towers above the town with its small winding streets, half-timbered houses and the river walk.
Sports and leisure: Cochem Leisure Centre with indoor wave pool, “Kinderland” and outdoor swimming pool, gym, Calmont climbing path, bike rental, 9 and 18 holes golf course Attractions: guided town sightseeing tour, guided tour of Reichsburg Castle, historic mustard mill in Cochem-Cond, Klotten Game and Leisure Park (accessible via chair lift). Tours: walk to Eltz Castle from Karden or Moselkern, sightseeing in Trier (easy to reach by train) including amphitheatre, imperial thermal baths, cathedral, Constantine Basilica or Porta Nigra and several museums, Martberg archaeological park with a “time travel” to the Roman and Celtic era, boat tours on the River Moselle including lock passage. For cyclists: cycle tours on the excellent cycle lanes along the Moselle to Beilstein, Zell, Moselkern and Alken; for mountain bikers trips to the Hunsrück and Eifel Mountains are highly recommended.
