On the north east coast, YHA Berwick is a new and unique hostel with an art gallery. Set in beautiful Northumberland countryside with superb walking and cycling routes. Brand new in 2011, YHA Berwick is housed in a beautifully converted 240-year-old former granary. With 54 en suite rooms, it is set around a courtyard and provides direct access to the quay through a tunnel. There’s a ground floor bistro that’s also open to the public and on the third floor there’s an art gallery. Follow the Lowry Trail around this beautiful walled town and find out why this was the painter’s favourite holiday resort.

This is a very nice hostel, with a bright, pleasant cafe serving the usual hostel menu, a nice lounge, kitchen, etc. The ensuite room I was in was amazingly spacious. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I wish, however, that they would check and respond to their email, and also that they would include explicit directions to the hostel from the train station on the website.

We really liked this youth hostel, it was a beautiful bilduing. Great rooms and friendly staff. Very quiet and peacefull!

Really nice recent conversion hostel. Staff all very helpful. Dormitory was clean and good size.

This is a very nice new youth hostel. We had a beautiful room and good service. Our only complaint was that there was no map on the website showing where the hostel is located. I was e-mailed the reply to my question of their location--"just look up google maps." I would have liked better directions to the hostel from the train station.
